Separate Drive-By Shootings in Brooklyn

Some Brooklyn residents and business owners are wondering if the nice weather means it's the "start of crazy time" given yesterday's two daytime shootings in Brooklyn. One incident occurred around noon near PS 256 - the Post reports that over 200 kids were outside during recess when a drive-by shooting took place at Marcy and Lafayette avenues - which is also near a park. Someone in a "light-colored sedan" fired at a Ford Explorer, killing the driver, 21-year-old Isaiah Jacob. The passenger, who was shot twice and is in serious condition, had escaped the Ford "before it sped down the block and smashed into a parked car." more ›

Rookie Off-Duty Cops Beaten Up in West Chelsea

There's always some sort of trouble in West Chelsea. Last night, two off-duty police officers were assaulted by a group around 4AM. Officers Richard Lomax and Robert DeFazio, friends who both graduated from the Police Academy last year, were in a Ford Explorer that apparently slid on ice at West 28th Street and 10th Avenue. They rear-ended a Nissan Maxima, whose driver and passengers were not happy: Lomax, who was driving, and DeFazio got out of the car, and the Maxima's passengers attacked them as Lomax was dialing 911. more ›

Four Queens men tortured and tried to kill Anthony Albaricci because he "allegedly" sprayed the following on one of the men's homes: "Aamer, you scum, pick up your phone." The Queens DA's office charged Aamer Khan, Ali Khan, Christian Diaz, and Joseph Piazza, ages 17-19, with attempted murder, assault and weapons possession for the incident that took place last Friday According to the Daily News, Aamer Khan owed Albaricci money. more ›

Woman Charged After Fatal Hit-and-Run

This morning, there was a horrific accident in Brooklyn involving two SUVs that left a 5 year old dead at the scene. At the intersection of Flatbush and Glenwood, a green Ford Explorer hit a GMC Yukon. WABC 7 says the Explorer "took down a parking meter and jumped a curb, striking the mother and her four kids." One witness told WABC 7, "She comes around illegally, hits the...black SUV, try to escape from that accident. She swerves and comes on the sidewalk and mauls down the whole family." more ›

Speeding and Overloaded SUV Overturns, Kills One

A Ford Explorer filled with eight people crashed and flipped over early Sunday morning. One of the passengers, 15 year old Rosemary Tavares, was partially ejected and crushed by the SUV. Police believe 22 year old Martin Ramirez was driving at a speed of at least 68 MPH - well over the 30 MPH speed limit for the area. Ramirez lost control when trying to make a left turn off Amsterdam Avenue onto West 148th Street in Manhattan (and the weight of the passengers didn't help) and hit three parked cars before overturning. more ›

Cop Shoot Carjacker in Face

An off duty police officer stopped a man from carjacking him by shooting him in the face. Officer Kenneth O'Connor had been sitting in his Ford Explorer SUV when Daniel Arroyo apparently threatened him with a gun early Sunday. O'Connor used his off-duty - and licensed - revolver and shot him in the head, but didn't realize that Arroyo had been wounded until he saw blood on the ground. The cop called the police and Arroyo was found trying to run away. more ›
