Could it be that we'll have a brush with winter today? The weekend too? It's true! There's a storm passing south of the city today that's not quite nor' enough to be a nor'easter but will bring cooler air, clouds and maybe a few flurries or snow showers. No accumulation is expected except in Union Square. Today's high will flirt with 40 degrees.

Almost Wintry Weather Today
A Little Bit More Snow Coming Our Way
The weekend weather forecast is kind of boring so let's review the superlatives from the storm without an end times nickname. Spread out over two days the storm set snowfall records for both the 26th and 27th. The 19 inches that were measured in Central Park ranks as the city's eighth greatest snowfall. This is also the snowiest January ever. The 36 inches that have fallen puts this month second only to last February as the snowiest of any month. This season is the sixth snowiest winter and winter is not yet half over.
Weekend Respite From the Cold
After bottoming out at 22 degrees this morning, the coldest of the season's first blast of cold air has moved eastward. Later today we should warm up above the freezing mark for the first time since Wednesday afternoon. As the cold air mass moves east it will drag a warm front across the region. Today's high should reach the mid 30s under mostly cloudy skies and the slightest chance of a snow flurry.
Winter Arrives
Winter is here! Over the weekend the temperature fell to the freezing mark and it won't escape the 30s for most of the week ahead. Check out this chart we made of when freezing temperatures hit Central park over the years.
Where's the Snow?
Night has fallen, and so have snow flurries—but it's not at the six-to-nine-inch or foot predictions yet. And New Yorkers are impatient to see some snow insanity (especially the ones that braved going to packed grocery stores to stock up!).
Sunny Weekend Almost Here
The skies have clouded up as a cold front approaches the region. The front extends out from a storm passing way to the north. The city is far enough away that there's only enough moisture to bring the clouds and a few off-and-on flurries this afternoon and evening. Look for a high in the mid 30s.
Turning the Corner
Winter weather has taken a definite turn toward the dull. Emptying out all that cold Arctic air last week has calmed the atmosphere down quite a bit. Clouds will arrive early this afternoon, bringing with them a slight chance of flurries. It will be a brisk day with a high in the mid 20s. The wind chill will be in the teens. Tomorrow will see a return to near normal temperatures as winds shift to the west around the backside of this high pressure system.
Winter Becoming Exhausted
That wasn't a very long lasting deep freeze but Friday's high of 16 and low of 9 made it the coldest day in more than five years. You have to go back to January 10th, 2004, when the max and min were 15 and 1, to find a colder day. The bitter cold air has been nearly exhausted, returning the city to more typical winter temperatures for the foreseeable future. In fact, the week ahead looks pretty boring in terms of the weather.
