Both the Mets and the Yankees were resting Monday night after a busy day for both teams. Their New York-Penn League teams did play though.

- There's lots of stuff going on at Governors Island, like the golf tournament later this year, but this Saturday, 100 plus swimmers will be participating in the Governors Island Swim, a two-mile swim around Governors Island. The race starts at 8 a.m. in front Castle Williams, with competitors swimming south (counterclockwise) around the island. Organizers expect the race to be finished at about 8:30! While this is something that could be fun to watch - laughing at the stragglers from dry land, for example - the first ferry to Governors Island isn't until 10 a.m and half the island is closed to the public. If you do want to visit, the ferry is free this summer, so there's no reason not to check out the abandoned Army and Coast Guard station. Warning: there's a hot dog monopoly on the island.
-Toronto 13 Yankees 5: Sidney Ponson showed why the Cardinals released him and Kris Wilson showed why the Royals released him. Together, the two of them gave up ten runs in four innings and the New York bats couldn’t make up the difference. A-Rod went 0-4, continuing his streak of looking clueless at the plate. Vernon Wells hit two home runs to power the Blue Jays.
- Tonight at Shea Stadium (assuming these apocalyptic thunderstorms stop), Good Morning America Weekend Edition anchor Kate Snow will be selling cotton candy to the masses as the Mets face the Astros. Her stint as a vendor is part of GMA's Summer Dream Jobs segment (or something like that) where anchors do various jobs unrelated to reading stuff off a teleprompter. Could they not give her a slightly harder job? When you sell cotton candy, you barely have to walk anywhere, all the kids go right up to you.
Despite taking the lead so early in the 20 stage race, Armstrong said that the goal is not to hold on to the lead now, but to have it by the end of the race in Paris. "Our objective is not to defend the jersey. It's not in the best interest of the team. You have to preserve the strength of the team for the second half." With that in mind, USPS will set their sights on the second half of the race and the mountain stages where Armstrong thrives.
