Hurricane warnings and mandatory evacuations have been posted for coastal New Jersey in advance of Hurricane Irene. A hurricane watch is in effect for New York City and surrounding counties. Irene has started to weaken somewhat and will continue to do so after it hits the Jersey shore. But it will be a potent storm capable of causing widespread damage when it hits the city. Rainy March Marches On

Yowza, yet another significant rain storm to contend with today. Yet another flood watch and coastal flood advisory have been issued. Anywhere from 1-4 inches of rain is possible through tomorrow night as a storm motors up the East Coast. Essentially the storm's axis of rain looks like it will pass over the city. As of this writing this is Central Park's fifth rainiest March on record. Another inch of rain will push us to third on the list but it will take nearly three inches to displace 1983 from the top spot. more ›

Today would be an excellent day to have lunch delivered. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch through this evening. An inch of rain is expected to fall today, with locally higher amounts possible. The rain should fall over a several-hour period so we don't anticipate any widespread subway stoppages. Heavy Soaking Tonight, Tomorrow

Tomorrow would be a good day to sleep in. All day. It may be sunny outside this morning but that sun is about to be replaced with clouds and heavy rain as a massive storm move up the Ohio Valley. The storm dumped nine inches of snow on North Texas yesterday and is expected to drop a foot or more of snow over the eastern Great Lakes by tomorrow. more ›
