Yet Another New Market Opens In Brooklyn This Weekend

Brooklyn is getting yet another market this weekend, with the opening of the DeKalb Market downtown, housed inside of abandoned shipping containers. They'll be offering food from Cheeky Sandwiches, Joe coffee, Robicelli’s cupcakes and Sour Puss Pickles, amongst others, and while there's nothing wrong with local businesses hawking their wares, you have to wonder: does the borough really need another place for independent, artisanal goods? more ›

Joe Sitt's Coney Island Festival Just Depressing

      

One of the more intriguing new developments at Coney Island this summer is the introduction of a new flea market—er, sorry, make that festival—featuring many of the displaced vendors from the Aqueduct Flea Market in Queens. And while there were promises of 120 "upscale" retail vendors, carnival acts, games, food booths and inflatable bounce houses, Amusing the Zillions stopped by during opening weekend and found that wasn't quite the case. more ›

Yesterday Jonathan Butler unleashed the Brooklyn Flea upon the borough, and even Marty Markowitz showed up (perhaps to find replacement placemats for his wife?). Butler tells us that "While we could have asked for better weather, we couldn't have asked for a better turnout or better vibes from all the visitors and vendors." more ›
