Yesterday staff at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in Manhattan were greeted by a burned rainbow flag hanging outside as they arrived at work. The NYC Anti-Violence Project (AVP) tells us the NYPD were contacted immediately and their Hate Crimes unit is now handling the investigation, with help from the AVP.

Tea Party Can't Fly Flag Over Connecticut Capitol
The Tea Party's attempt to have the Gadsden "Don't Tread On Me" Colonial-era flag fly above the Connecticut State Capitol Building in Hartford failed. At first, the CT State Police approved the flag's appearance, but then rescinded the offer when they realized that the Tea Party would be having a political rally outside the capitol as well.
Confederate Flag Shirt Troubling for Staten Island Boy
Staten Island may be south of Manhattan, but it’s still not so far south that you can get away with wearing a Confederate flag T-shirt without some people getting offended. According to the Staten Island Advance, 12-year-old Shaun Hines has had to endure a lot of name-calling because of his decision to repeatedly wear his Confederate flag T-shirt around school. The school's administrators don’t have a problem with the shirt, but apparently some of his classmates have interpreted it as kind of racist.
