In a field trip to the Richmond County Mortuary, some Staten Island teenagers made a ghastly discovery: their former classmate's brain on display in a jar. Jesse Shipley, 17, died in a car crash in 2005, and medical examiner Dr. Stephen de Roux took the license to keep the teen's brain. It was discovered on the field trip months later, and the Shipley's have now gotten permission to sue the city, even though they're saying they did nothing wrong. more ›

Time to flashback to 2007, when a history teacher at the Beacon School was in hot water for arranging a class trip to Cuba. See, there are travel restrictions to Cuba and the kids were detained by customs agents from their way back to New York. Now, showing how slowly bureaucracy moves, the Department of Education finally released its report on the incident and decided to ban teacher Nathan Turner from the school system. more ›

Earlier this morning, a school bus full of kids was headed to Lincoln Center for a field trip. Unfortunately, there was a detour to the hospital instead for some students, after the bus hit another car on East 63rd Street between First and Second Avenues. According to 1010 WINS, "Officials say 24 students from P.S. 149 and three adults were on the bus. Eleven children have been taken to the hospital." more ›

Some public school kids were treated to the first look at Central Park Zoo's new snow leopards yesterday, the first of their kind to have a Manhattan zip code. Some of the kids talked to the Daily News, giving their initial thoughts on the uncertain future of the animals as a species. One 8-year-old named Conway told them, "I'm inspired. In the winter, I will spend all the time helping endangered animals by not wasting paper, and I will try not to litter, which I already do." What about the other three seasons Conway? more ›
