On Sunday, a motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision when a Ferrari swerved into his lane on a service road near the MetLife Stadium. Man's Girlfriend Dies After Crashing Wife's Car In Brooklyn DWI
A 32-year-old woman is dead after a car driven by her boyfriend drove into a street median and hit a light pole and another car on Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park last night. And not only was the boyfriend charged with DWI, apparently the car belonged to the boyfriend's wife. The Daily News reports, "[Nyron] Isaac, an unemployed maintenance worker, was supposed to be home watching his 10-year-old son, according to his wife, Tennile Isaac, 29, who has been seeking a divorce. She had warned him not to drive the Cadillac, which she was transferring ownership of to him, because it was uninsured, she said."

A SUV and a MTA bus, the B15, crashed in a parking lot at JFK Airport last night, killing one person in the SUV and injuring at least eight others. The accident occurred near Parking Lot 8, "on Pan Am Avenue off Lefferts Boulevard near the employee parking lot, across from long term parking," according to WABC 7.
Passenger Dies From Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge Car Crash
The Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge's recently renovated off-ramp has claimed another life: Beatriz Rodriguez, who was a passenger in a car that crashed into a Long Island City beauty salon after careening from the bridge on Wednesday, died yesterday. Last week, a 68-year-old pedestrian standing in front of the salon was killed when a car, also careening from the off-ramp, slammed into him. Rodriguez's sister-in-law told the Post, "They should definitely fix that bridge exit. I think she would be alive today if they would have fixed it."
Witnesses Claim Bus Driver Was Swerving Before Fatal Bronx Crash
The National Transportation Safety Board has dispatched a team of investigators to look into the fatal bus crash that claimed 14 lives on I-95 in the Bronx over the weekend. The bus, operated by World Wide Tours, was traveling from Mohegan Sun back to Chinatown when it overturned and slid hundreds of feet into a highway sign pole; the pole then sliced the bus in half, killing and maiming passengers. According to the Wall Street Journal, the NTSB said "investigators hoped that a black box that records data about how fast the bus was going and other factors would tell them if the driver was speeding. They also planned to look at footage from a camera pointed at passengers on the bus."
Deliveryman Dies After Being Hit By Texting Driver
The deliveryman who was struck by a texting driver and declared brain dead from the accident has now died from the injuries. On September 19th, 19-year-old Nechama Rothberger slammed her car into scooter-riding Tian Sheng Lin as they both made the same left turn. Investigators found a half-written outgoing message on her phone, but she claims she was merely texting her family after the accident, and just didn't see Lin while making the turn. Rothberger faces misdemeanor charges and no jail time, but Lin's family wants her to get a harsher punishment. Her lawyer previously said she "didn't hit him intentionally. It was merely an accident," which of course makes her free of any blame.
16-Year-Old Speeds, Crashes, Kills 13-Year-Old Passenger
An underage driver was charged with criminally negligent homicide after he crashed a van into a parked car, a tree and a house, killing his 13-year-old back-seat passenger. Eric Hakimisefat, 16, who only has a junior license, which prohibits him from driving without a parent or guardian, had been speeding in the Midwood section of Brooklyn—he was allegedly going over 60 mph in a 30-mph zone.
One Dead In LIE Wrong-Way Crash
The Long Island Expressway's eastern lanes were closed early this morning when a car was going "westbound in the eastbound HOV lane," according to WABC 7. Driver Juan Cruz, 27, "struck the guardrail between exits 44 and 45 around 4:45 a.m." and a male passenger in his minivan died. Cruz was arrested and Newsday reports that the police say, "The accident investigation is ongoing and may be alcohol-related."
Driver In Fatal "Drag Race" Crash Free On $2,000 Bail
The driver arrested for DWI after a fatal Staten Island drag race was arraigned and then released on $2000 bail. Korey Swatz, 33, had a blood alcohol of 0.10, above the 0.08 legal limit, after the crash that took 20-year-old Philip Boney-Scrivano's life. Witnesses say that Boney-Scrivano and Swatz were driving at over 100 mph in Tompkinsville when Boney-Scrivano jumped the curb at Bay Street and crashed into the Citgo gas station; his body was thrown from the car and reportedly "ripped apart" when it hit a utility pole.
Apology From Cab Driver In Fatal Bus Shelter Crash
The livery cab driver who crashed into a Bronx bus shelter last week, killing one man and injuring six others (including a woman whose foot was amputated), has issued an apology. Pedro Marte apparently swerved into the shelter because he was trying to avoid a minivan making an illegal U-turn on the street. The NY State Federation of Taxi Drivers' Fernando Mateo said, "He wants the families to know that it wasn’t his fault. He did everything he could to avoid this terrible tragedy. But he totally lost control and it was out of his hands.” The minivan driver was given a summons.

Yesterday morning, a livery cab crashed into a Bronx bus shelter, killing a 76-year-old man and injuring six others. One woman's foot needed to be amputated: According to the Post, "Witnesses said the sickening impact in Kingsbridge left sprawled pedestrians screaming in pain, with shattered glass embedded in their faces and limbs, and a maimed woman shouting, 'Where's my foot? Where's my foot?'"
LI Community Mourns Deaths Of Three In Car Crash
Yesterday morning, three people were killed in a car crash on the Meadowbrook State Parkway. Floral Park residents Michael Mulhall, 22, Paige Malone, 19, and her sister Jamie Malone, 22, died; they and the two survivors, driver Justine Mulhall, 20, Michael Mulhall's sister, and Kelly Murphy, 20, were headed to Camp Anchor in Lideo Beach, where they work as counselors to disabled adults and children. The Malones' father Jim wept, "We lost three great kids from this town today, two from my family. Wonderful kids. Never in any trouble. It's terrible. We're just devastated."
Brooklyn DA Investigating Fort Greene Mom's Vespa Death
Responding to outrage from Council Member Letitia James and the friends and family of Aileen McKay-Dalton, the Brooklyn District Attorney's office has announced an investigation into the crash that killed the Vespa-driving mother of three in Fort Greene last Thursday. At least three witnesses say the driver of the SUV that killed McKay-Dalton had sped through a red light, but the NYPD decided that no criminality was involved. The NYPD's decision was particularly suspicious because the unidentified driver was reportedly a member of a federal law enforcement agency.
Investigation Called for After SUV's Fatal Collision with Vespa
Last night an unidentified 40-year-old woman died from head trauma sustained during a collision with an SUV Ford Explorer in Fort Greene around 5:30 p.m. Witnesses say she was heading west on DeKalb Avenue and making a right turn on Clinton Avenue when the SUV ran the red light heading north on Clinton. Initial accounts suggested that the driver was an undercover detective with the NYPD, and that the vehicle was equipped with police lights.
Driver In Deadly LI Crash Was Speeding, Unlicensed
More details have emerged about the crash on Pine Hollow Road in Oyster Bay that left three people in two cars dead on Sunday. Israel Maldonado (pictured) was speeding in a Nissan Altima, with his cousin Jose Suazo as passenger, when he passed a patrol car, which then followed it. The Daily News reports, "Nassau Detective Lt. Kevin Smith said Maldonado, who was not licensed to drive in New York, was clocked at 76 mph - 21 miles over the speed limit. 'We have witnesses who were between the police officer and the car,' Smith added, 'who said this car was absolutely flying.'"
Investigation Into Fatal Crash Near GW Bridge
A motorcyclist's fatal crash, during a police chase, near a NYC-bound lane to the George Washington Bridge early yesterday morning remains under investigation. Bergen County prosecutor John Molinelli says that Israel Curbelo, 39, crashed "near the bridge's toll plaza in Fort Lee around 4 a.m., after he struck a vehicle he was trying to illegally pass." Apparently Curbelo was being pursued by two police vehicles because he was driving erratically; according to Cliffview Pilot, at one point Curbelo drove across a residence's lawn during the four-minute chase and Molinelli also added, "Officers at the scene detected the odor of alcohol from Curbelo during resuscitative efforts, and a small amount of what is believed to be marijuana was found on [him]."
Delays On Inbound GW Bridge After Fatal Crash
Earlier this morning, a motorcyclist crashed near the Route 46 approach to the George Washington Bridge and was killed. Apparently NJ police had been chasing two motorcycles from Ridgefield Park before 4 a.m. WABC reports, "The chase continued into Fort Lee, where one of the motorcycle riders lost control, possibly after hitting a vehicle, at the lower level inbound approach to the George Washington Bridge. The motorcyclist flipped off the bicycle, slamming onto the ground. The rider sustained serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene." The other motorcyclist was injured. Because the investigation is still continuing, the inbound approach to the upper level is closed, causing delays.
Cops Out Drinking Until 5 a.m. Before Fatal Crash
Officers Hoyoung Kim and Edwin Paulino, who were killed in a crash on the Bronx River Parkway, had been at a surprise party thrown for another cop before getting in their car with four other passengers. The party, thrown by Kenneth Ingram, was so loud it frustrated neighbors. One complained to the Daily News, saying, "The music and noise of the party didn't end until 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning. They were drinking. It kept me awake. My neighbor said he called the police, but nobody came." Apparently they were all next door.
Off-Duty Cop Was Designated Driver in Fatal Crash
According to one survivor, NYPD Officer Hoyoung Kim was supposed to have been the designated driver, but was "slightly intoxicated" when he crashed on the Bronx River Parkway on Saturday, killing himself and another off-duty cop and injuring four passengers. Police say blood alcohol tests have not been completed, but are blaming the crash on "driver inattentiveness," saying Kim wasn't paying attention and realized he was about to pass his exit.
15-Year-Old Gets 18 Months In Juvie For Fatal Joyride
The 15-year-old boy who flipped his family's GMC Envoy while speeding on the Bruckner Expressway—killing 12-year-old passenger Kaitlin Booth— last December was sentenced to 18 months in a juvenile detention center after pleading guilty to criminally negligent homicide. Initially after the crash, Anthony Pontis claimed that Booth, a neighbor, was a pedestrian and the SUV was driven by two men who ran off. The Daily News reports, "Depending on Pontis' behavior and other circumstances, a judge could extend the 18-month sentence till his 18th birthday." His lawyer said, "He's a child and he's heartbroken... He's a good kid who did a bad thing. His family extends their condolences to the Booth family."
High Driver Doesn't Feel So Bad About Killing "Old" Woman
The 18-year-old who was allegedly high on Oxycontin and Xanax when she drove a passenger van into a Hempstead, Long Island home, fatally striking the home's owner, was hysterical when taken out of the police station yesterday. Kayla Gerdes screamed to reporters, "No, I didn't [purposely aim for her.] Listen, stop -- listen, it was an accident! Please leave me, alone it was a mistake! Stop it was a mistake! No, I was on prescription drugs, it was a mistake! Stop! Leave me alone!" (Video below.) But she reportedly told police investigators, "The thing that made me feel not so bad was she was old," referring to victim Rebecca Twine-Wright, "I mean, 70 years is a long time to live."
Runaway Van Kills L.I. Woman, Crashes Into House
This morning, a woman who was in the front yard of a Hempstead, Long Island home was killed when a van barreled onto her lawn and slammed her into her house. It's unclear if the woman was a resident or pedestrian, but WCBS 2 reports, "A broken lawn mower was seen near the van with the handle bars stripped off. Black tire tracks in the street mark where the van veered onto the sidewalk, followed by a long trail of tracks through the grass. The front of the gray van went through a portion of the brick house by the front door."
