MTA Employee Falls On Tracks, Rescued By Mystery Do-Gooders
An MTA architect on his way to work on Friday found himself deeply indebted to four unidentified good Samaritans after they rescued him from the subway tracks. Michael Lodespoto was waiting for the subway after transferring from Atlantic Terminal when he began to feel dizzy. He said, "I just want to thank them for their courage...and maybe give them a hug."
Woman Falls In L Train Tracks, Not Hit By Train
[Update below ] A 26-year-old woman fell into the L train track at Union Square earlier this evening—and is reportedly okay! According to the Post, "An Eighth Avenue-bound L train pulling into the station just after 7 p.m. was able to stop before running her over. She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with cuts to her head, but miraculously, no serious injuries." Cops tell us it appeared she was dizzy (people, please stand away from the platform edge). Trains were suspended for a little while between Eighth Avenue and Bedford, but resumed service about an hour later.
Off-Duty Firefighter Becomes Latest Subway Hero
An off-duty firefighter got called into action Friday night when he ended up pulling a Wes Autrey and jumping down on the tracks to rescue a man who had fainted and was laying unconscious on the tracks just as an uptown Q train began pulling into the Union Square station. 30-year-old Adam Rivera, originally of Bay Ridge, had been out in the East Village getting Indian food with his girlfriend to celebrate their seventh anniversary. The couple was heading home to the Upper West Side when Rivera spotted 45-year-old Marco Delamo on the tracks. The firefighter out of Engine 10 in lower Manhattan told reporters, "People were panicking, but nobody was doing anything...I thought to myself, 'This is my job — I'm a New York City firefighter, and I have to do something...There was no time to be afraid. You can't waste time hesitating. You just move, and the thinking stops...Being right there in a position to help — that's why I joined the department." Rivera and two other men lifted Delamo to the platform before he was taken to St. Vincent's intensive care with head injuries.

According to The New York Times, the delays are worst during the subway rush hour, when 8% of trains fail to perform according to schedule. The NYC Transit report cited track work as by far the largest cause of delays, as transit employees attempt to modernize or even repair the subway. But...
