Joining the likes of Woody Allen, Paul Simon and Carmelo Anthony, FOX5 anchor Rosanna Scotto is getting her own sandwich at the Carnegie Deli to celebrate her 25th anniversary on air. Just make sure you ask them to hold the "soy jizzum!"

NY Times Brings Anastos's Chicken Back From The Dead
Did you read the NY Times profile piece on newsman Ernie Anastos? In it, the paper puts him face-to-face with his famous on-air fumble, at which point Anastos suggested a rehash of the "dead story" did not belong in the piece... but the Gray Lady disagreed! So there are many paragraphs dedicated to getting down to the bottom of WTF he meant exactly, when he said "Keep fucking that chicken" during the September 16th broadcast last year.
"Keep Fucking That Chicken" Double Standard?
Everyone loves to "Keep fucking that chicken!" Well, at least say the bizarre yet irresistible catch phrase coined by WNYW Fox 5 anchor Ernie Anastos. If it's not Jon Stewart being jealous that Anastos got to use it first, then it's the Reverend Al Sharpton guessing that term's meaning. The Reverend told City Room, "It could be a kind of phrase: ‘Well, keep doing what you are doing. Keep going after it.' Even if you are tired or distracted, keep on doing that chicken, that kind of thing." We don't think fatigue or distraction will ever keep us from saying "Keep fucking that chicken!" (and then giggling for a few minutes).
Catch Phrase Of The Year Nominee: Keep Fucking That Chicken
Move over "teachable moment," "death panel," "You lie! and "Imma let you finish"—it's possible that My Fox NY anchor Ernie Anastos' unwitting catch phrase has caught fire! Hell, it might even be the catch phrase of the century! At first, the veteran local newsman's utterance "Keep fucking that chicken!" was limited to the local airwaves, but thank God for the Internet. (And screw the "maybe he meant 'keep plucking that chicken'" because that's just not fun.) Now it's gone national (cable)—on last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart led off with a couple minutes dedicated to it:
Video: Ernie Anastos Drops F-Bomb Chicken Combo On Air
Veteran NYC news anchor Ernie Anastos, who currently appears on MyFoxNY (channel 5)'s 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. broadcasts, spiced things up last night. Gawker explains, "Perhaps overloaded by transitive small talk between the weather report and a commercial break, Anastos — who once said 'dot cock' on live television — told meteorologist Nick Gregory that 'it takes a tough man to make a tender forecast,' and then, to the utter shock and appall of his co-anchor, Dari Alexander continued, 'Keep fucking that chicken.'" Huh?
The Old Guard
Growing up in NJ, I would watch the local NY stations for news. So I realize I'm older when I WABC anchor Bill Beutel was retiring. He was always a very sturdy presence. He also had listened to coverage of the Battle of Britain during his childhood (!). There are a few other newscasters that are familiar to me from my childhood: CBS's Ernie Anastos, WNBC's Michele Marsh who used to be on WCBS, and my personal favorite, WNBC's Chuck Scarborough. Currently, I'm predisposed to WNBC's newscasts...I think they are much better than WCBS or WABC, from reporters' personalities and quality of reporting to just the set design. If you live in the New York metro area long enough, you see some newscasters rotate amongst the local networks, especially with the younger WB and UPN newscasts.
