Last night on Saturday Night Live, Chris Rock appeared on the cold open (what's a cold open?) to give his thoughts about the 2008 presidential race. While his riff on Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama was great, it was also a little too long for our meager transcribing chops this morning. So we give you his thoughts on the Republican contenders:

This week’s repertory options want to take New York moviegoers around the world and back again via the silver screen. But spring has finally sprung like so many daffodils in the new theatrical releases category as well, so there are lots to see all over the city this weekend. more ›

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced the lineup for the New York Film Festival 2004, and it looks like NY will again benefit from being, arguably, the world's last major film festival by getting films that have played at other festivals by the time the NYFF starts October 1. Opening the festival will be Agnes Jaoui's Look At Me (premiered at Cannes); Pedro Almodovar's Bad Education (also at Cannes) is the centerpiece, as well there being a Pedro retrospective (Viva Pedro!); and Alexander Payne's Sideways will close the festival. The Frick Collection has three Vermeers: Girl Interrupted at Her Music, Mistress and Maid, and Officer and Laughing Girl. And there's this small film from 1990, All the Vermeers in New York, that Gothamist just loves (probably because it reminds of us Eric Rohmer). And the movie, Girl With the Pearl Earring, based on the Tracy Chevalier novel, is on DVD. more ›

Charlotte Sometimes finally opens in New York with a theatrical run at Cinema Village on East 12th Street starting today. Gothamist first caught it in February, and it is a beautiful, subdued character driven film about four young people in L.A.: An introverted mechanic; his tenant, a sexy actress; her boyfriend; and a mysterious woman. The Times' Dave Kehr calls it "a tiny film that reflects a large talent." Kehr also says that director Eric Byler's style recalls that of French master, Eric Rohmer "fascination with courtship rituals" and "complex interaction of two actors sharing the same frame." Roger Ebert was an early advocate for the film. more ›

I don't think I am a business road warrior, someone who can jump from plane to plane and make each hotel room his/her own home. Airports make me a little crazy, since I tend to have too many bags to keep track of and going anywhere, bathroom, newsstand, becomes a funny challenge. ("Ha, that girl has a laptop, messenger bag, pull carry-on luggage, winter coat, and bottle of water - and she thinks she's going get to the back of the newsstand for Cosmo.")
