Last Night's Action: Swisherlicious!

  • Yankees 9 Baltimore 6: Nick Swisher now has four home runs this year at Camden Yards and three at Yankee Stadium. Then again, the Yankees really don’t care where he hits them, just as long as he keeps doing it. Swisher hit a two-run blast in the seventh to break up a 6-6 tie and Eric Hinske added a solo shot to put the Yankees up by 3. The bullpen pitched flawlessly in relief of A.J. Burnett. Burnett had another shaky start, surrendering six runs in just over five innings, but the offense bailed him out and the Yankees will go for the sweep tomorrow night.

Last Night's Action: Blown Over in Chicago

  • White Sox 10, Yankees 5: This whole Sergio Mitre-as-a-fifth-starter experiment isn't going too well Mitre has a 7.90 ERA after lasting three innings and allowing five runs as the Yankees fell for the second straight night in Chicago. The Yankees led, 3-0, before Mitre took the mound, bu the gave one run back in the bottom of the first, three more in the second and then another in the third. Dave Roberston allowed one run to take the loss after the Yankees had tied it, 5-5. Eric Hinske continued his habit of hitting homers whenever he plays, but the Yankees' offense couldn't muster anything else.

A spectator at Fenway Park in Boston took to the field and interrupted the game during last night's Red Sox-Yankees rubber match. With the game still tied 1-1 at the bottom of the 7th inning, Boston first baseman Eric Hinske was leading off for the Sox and was the first batter to face pitcher Joba Chamberlain, who relieved Roger Clemens. Hinske managed a double to left field after facing a full count at the plate and was practically chased to second base by an idiot who leapt to the field and raced to high-five the Boston baserunner.

The Yankees have now dropped three straight games and are 5-6 since owner, George Steinbrenner, declared that enough was enough. At 9-14, the Yankees are assured of their first losing record in April since 1991 and they currently sit 6 1/2 games behind the first place Orioles. Manager, Joe Torre, continues to tinker with his lineup to try and spark the offense to no avail. One has to wonder, how long will it be before more drastic changes are made to the teams’ personnel?
