Last Night's Action: The Bats Keep Booming

Last Night's Action: The Bats Keep Booming

The Yankees are certainly enjoying their trip to Chicago. Wednesday they really broke out the lumber, scoring 13 runs in the first three innings as they demolished the White Sox 18-7. Derek Jeter had five hits while Curtis Granderson added four hits and five RBI's. Robinson Cano and Eric Chavez had 4 RBI's and every starter had at least one hit and one run. The only downside was another terrible effort by AJ Burnett. Staked to a 12-run lead, AJ couldn't even last long enough to earn the win, departing in the 5th inning. But Corey Wade, Luis Ayala and Rafael Soriano took it from there, recording the final 14 outs while not allowing a run. more ›

Last Night's Action: A Nice Start From Pelfrey

Last Night's Action: A Nice Start From Pelfrey

Mets 5 San Francisco 2: Mike Pelfrey was good over 7-2/3 innings, allowing only one earned run while striking out 5 to earn his second win of the season. Carlos Beltran hit his 5th homer of the year while Jose Reyes had a 2-run triple. K-Rod came on in the 8th and saved the game, despite loading the bases with one-out in the 9th. The Mets will now face the only team in worse financial straits than they are, the LA Dodgers. more ›

Electrifying Ride Atop Metro-North Train

Electrifying Ride Atop Metro-North Train

A 37-year-old man ended his train trip atop a Metro-North car at the Pelham station, where he fell or was pulled from the train's roof, while on fire and suffering from burns after coming into contact with a high voltage power cable. Accounts of the incident differ, but do agree on the fact that the adventurer was named Eric Chavez, he suffered burns on his body, and that it was somewhat of a miracle that he was alive. more ›

Climbing Out of the Hole?

Climbing Out of the Hole?

Brown’s and Mussina’s gems could not have come at a better time. Mussina snapped a four-game losing streak that included three losses to Tampa Bay (Tampa Bay!) and a sloppy 6-3 loss to Oakland on Friday night. Still, Gothamist needs to see more. The A’s line-up is hardly potent, especially with Eric Chavez, its best hitter, hitting .190. Still, Tampa Bay’s line-up is not fearsome, yet it still managed to torch Brown in his previous start. These starts are baby steps for the Yankees. For a team that is now six games under .500, those are the only steps they can take. more ›

Welcome to New York, Alex

Welcome to New York, Alex

In the bottom of the ninth with one runner on and one out, Gary Sheffield (hands down the Yankee MVP) launched an Octavio Dotel pitch into the Left field seats tying the game 6-6. In the Bottom of the 11th it was A-Rod's turn to play hero, hitting, what looked like a lazy fly ball to left field, that carried over the left field wall. The home run may be viewed as the moment that A-Rod officially became a Yankee. He had been mired in a slump this entire season with runners in scoring position, but last night that all changed with his walk-off home run. more ›
