Recently at one of our sister sites, LAist's Julie Wolfson spent an afternoon with Cloverfield director Matt Reeves. In the interview that follows he spills some juicy details about the film, including what the title really means, which will be in theaters this Friday.

Just after her son died, and just after her new baby girl was born, it has been announced that Anna Nicole Smith has now died at age 39. She had been at the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino, where she collapsed in a room. The police say there was no child in the room, but there was a personal nurse with her. Her bodyguard had performed CPR; apparently a paramedic said Smith was dead when he got to the room. Smith was pronounced dead at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida; an autopsy will be performed tomorrow.
Yeesh, there sure are a lot of new movies out this weekend. Choose wisely and you will be well rewarded.
Last night, Katie Couric made her CBS Evening News debut. Overall, the newscast was perfectly fine - no banter, a long Lara Logan feature on going in Taliban-run Afghanistatn, an interview (sorta like The Daily Show, just without the humor) with the NY Times' Thomas L. Friedman, a segment from Morgan "30 Days" Spurlock, and what the public has really been waiting for, pictures of baby Suri Cruise (she has a crazy head of hair!). Sure, people tuned in for last night's broadcast, but will they tune in every day? Are you going to watch? And are you going to help Katie pick a sign-off?
- Who knew that one of Barbie's alter-egos was Modern Barbie, which is Barbie as an "." Uh oh - love triangle! Gothamist doesn't understand the various parallel worlds Barbie is able to live in. Typically, though, the black Barbie, "Simone," just gets the description, "an exotic makeup artist who's always dressed to impress." Exotic! Ha!
- Kids don't need a 101 on Tragic Movie Stars' Lives with James Dean or Marilyn Monroe dolls, do they? They can watch E! or Entertainment Tonight for the Robert Downey Jr. and Courtney Love updates, can't they?
- We can't tell if Fashion Insider Ken is gay or just metrosexual.
Sean John, the clothing line rap impressario P. Diddy/Puff Daddy/Sean Combs/that guy everywhere samplin' everything, may be getting its own stores. The Post notes that the Diddy may have secured financing for 10 retail stores, including a flagship in Manhattan, while PD's music career is not what it used to be. Maybe it's because PD is so ubiquitous - Gothamist can't remember an episode of Entertainment Tonight or MTV video where he's not present. The spectre of P. Diddy looms large.
Anyway, one reason to watch The Tonight Show would have to be Jay's correspondents, who include director Kevin Smith and Fred Willard, but the correspondent I will watch the Tonight Show for is intern Ross Matthew, aka Ross the Intern. Incredibly gay and smarter than he is gay, his celebrity interviews are maybe the best in the business today - especially in this age of panderers on Entertainment Tonight, E! News Daily, and Access Hollywood. (When trying to get George Clooney's attention, he yelled "Jorge!") If you're stuck inside because of the weather, check out Ross's escapades. The video of him and Gwyneth Paltrow is killer. And yes, he really is an intern.
