EMT's Facebook Photos of Murder Victim Spark Lawsuit

Last month Staten Island EMT Frank Musarella, 46, a retired NYPD detective, was arrested for posting on his Facebook page a crime scene photo of a murder victim taken with his cell phone. If convicted of official misconduct, he could face up to a year in jail. But victim Caroline Wimmer's parents, who found their daughter's strangled and beaten body in March after not hearing from her for a few days, are filing a notice of claim in state Supreme Court to hold the city, the NYPD, the FDNY and Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta accountable.

EMT's Facebook Photo of Murder Victim: 0 Likes, 1 Arrest

The Staten Island EMT who was fired last month for posting on his Facebook a crime scene photo of murder victim taken on his cell phone has now been arrested and charged with official misconduct. Former NYPD Detective Mark Musarella, who had been involved in high-profile rescues while on the force, took a photograph of Caroline Wimmer after she had been strangled with a hair dryer cord in a West Brighton incident sparked by a rumor started on MySpace. Musarella's lawyer says his client, described as having a "raw sense of humor," will plead not guilty and that the photo was posted by accident. The Staten Island DA told reporters that Musarella "ignored his training and professional ethics and acted in a cruel and callous manner." He could face up to a year in prison if convicted.

EMT Put Murder Victim's Crime Scene Photo On His Facebook

The woman whose parents say she was murdered due to a rumor put on MySpace ended up with her photo on Facebook—taken by an EMT at the scene of the crime! Richmond University Medical Center officials fired Mark Musarella when they found out that he had posted a picture of the body of Caroline Wimmer, whose murder was just in the news last week after police arrested a suspect. Musarella, better known as "Moose," is a retired NYPD detective known for high-profile rescues and was described as "a little off-the wall...a raw sense of humor." The SI Advance says that while the picture of Wimmer was taken down, Musarella's Facebook may still have a picture of a car crash he responded to. The hospital also informed the NYPD after they were tipped off to the photo of the victim by one of his "friends" on Facebook.

EMT Arrested for Ditching a Five-Year-Old

Another abandonment case, this time of a child in need of medical attention, has led to the arrest of an Emergency Medical Technician. 28-year-old Paul Casson brought a 5-year-old to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center on New Year's Eve after a motor vehicle accident left the boy with nonlife threatening injuries. Casson apparently did not want to wait to fill out the proper paperwork and took off after forging a nurse's signature. A Department of Investigation spokeswoman interviewed about Casson's arrest yesterday said that the EMT worker simply "didn't want to wait." He could face up to seven years in prison after beingcharged with endangering the welfare of a child. A bus matron recently made headlines—for another New Year's Eve incident—when she left a disabled man in a freezing bus for 17 hours.

EMT Accused of Shooting BB Gun at Coworkers As "A Joke"

A decorated EMT is being investigated for allegedly shooting several subordinates "for fun" with a BB gun in their Canarsie headquarters. A source tells the Post that Lt. Leonard Tiberi (pictured), an EMT since 1996, was fond of bringing his BB gun to work and shooting at soda bottles. But his superiors weren't too keen on Tiberi's trigger happiness, and he was ordered to leave the gun at home. Nevertheless, he packed heat again one night this month, allegedly choosing targets other than soda bottles, which, to be fair, can get pretty boring targets. The Post's source says, "That night, he took it a step further and shot at the employees a couple of times each as a joke." What a cut-up, that Tiberi! It's all fun and games until you shoot your coworker's eye out, but maybe he didn't see the harm of a little gunplay because his coworkers are all medics. Complicating matters, however, is that everyone Tiberi allegedly shot at were minorities, according to the unidentified source.

Last week a video by rapper Papoose surfaced, showing a Bed-Stuy volunteer ambulance along with volunteer EMTs attending to a dying man on the street. The taxpayer funded B.S.V.A.C. was allocated $135K last year, and not to waste time hanging out on video sets. But it turns out the EMTs were duped into being in the video; The Daily News reports:

"Ambulance" opens with a gunshot and a piercing scream, then shows two paramedics frantically working on a bleeding man in an ambulance.

Rapper Papoose better not follow in the footsteps of his lady love, Remy Ma, lest he find himself behind bars along with her. The rapper is feuding with another rapper, Uncle Murder, and has visually "brought it" in a new video for his song "Ambulance."
