It's been all smiles this week for Chile's biggest Elvis Presley fan, Edison Pena, one of the 33 miners who were rescued earlier this month after being trapped underground for 70 days. He charmed America on the Late Show with Dave Letterman the other night, singing a bit of "Suspicious Minds" to Dave's delight. At a Chilean restaraunt last night, he was congratulated and embraced by locals: "I didn’t expect it. I was a very warm welcome. People in New York are very warm,” a translator for Pena said. And he wasn't just referring to our space heaters! (Instant Rimshot)

The Winning Eustaces
The New Yorker has finally announced the winning entries in their Eustace Tilley contest. The winning dandies will appear in the February 11th-18th issue of the magazine, their 83rd anniversary issue. The magazine’s art editor, Françoise Mouly, talked with Matt Dellinger about the nearly three hundred submissions they received, as well as the history of Tilley -- listen here.
Video of the Day: Elvis in New York
In June of 1972 (just months after his divorce) Elvis Presley performed a 3-day run at Madison Square Garden. These shows were the first full concerts he put on in NYC, and the first since he appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1956. Excitement was in the air, and Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Art Garfunkel, all of Led Zepplin and half of The Beatles (John Lennon and George Harrison) were in the audience. Another notable name: some report Liberace was there and after seeing him in concert suggested adding flashy costumes into his act.

A Sandwich Fit For A King
What do you get when you combine bacon, peanut butter and bananas? If you answered a stomachache then you may wish to stop reading this entry and go indulge in a rice cake or two. If not, then you probably know that those are the ingredients in one of Elvis Presley's favorite sandwiches.
