Of all the days and in all the neighborhoods for this to happen: On Sunday, the Daily News reports that Khadijah Farmer, a "masculine lesbian," was kicked out of the women's bathroom at the Caliente Cab Co. on Seventh Avenue in the West Village. And this happened to be a few hours after the Gay Pride Parade! Farmer says that when she went into the ladies' room, another woman gave her a look and said,......

Yesterday, the controversial immigration bill proposed by President Bush stalled in the Senate when both Republicans and Democrats could not come to a final vote. The bill, which neither party liked very much for different reasons, represented a historic to change immigration law, and both parties tried to work on a compromise that would satisfy most Senators. Sixty votes were needed to stop debate and move to a final vote, but there were only 45......

Workers at Vietnamese restaurant Saigon Grill have gone on strike - and have also been locked out by the owners - for over two weeks. Now, the workers have filed a lawsuit against Saigon Grill for a wide range of labor violations. According to the Justice Will Be Served, the group that is working with the workers: "The owners demanded workers sign an illegal contract, stating that they have received minimum wage, even though......

The news is grim for many gay rights supporters after the NY State Court of Appeals upheld the gay marriage ban - ceding a decision to the NY State Legislature (one of the most dysfunctional in the country!). The NY Times' news analysis calls this a "key setback" as other states deciding on gay marriage will look at this ruling:For now, at least, so-called marriage equality is the fight that both sides want to......

Some people were upset by the NY Post's "Wok This Way" cover headline, which showed Chinese leader Hu Jintao with President Bush, who was pulling at Hu's jacket. The Daily News, who is keeping score on any possible missteps by its rival, reports that Asian American groups are upset. For instance, Margaret Fung, executive director of the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, tells the News, "It was racist and offensive because it takes......

Besides the Calvin Klein live perfume ad, there's some interesting action in Times Square today: FDNY firefighters will be at Duffy Square (the TKTS island) between 11AM-3PM autographing copies of the new 2006 Calendar of Heroes! There are apparently some firefighter models in their 40s in the calendar (hey, George Clooney, Johnny Depp, and Brad Pitt are all in their 40s) for the calendar to have a broader appeal. Sigh, we guess we'll get......

If you're looking for a way to add zing to the new year, Gothamist suggests you keep in mind the 2005 Calendar of Heroes from the Fire Department of NY. What is better than twelve month's of New York's Bravest Beefcake, especially with backdrops like Coney Island and the bridgework under the 125th Street subway station in Harlem...okay, fine, we're not kidding anyone - no one is really looking at the backgrounds. But who doesn't......

If there's one more reason not to ban photography in the subways, Gothamist would have to say it's having firefighters pose half naked for the FDNY Calendar of Heroes, as such Stephen Spagnola does above, in one of the newer subway cars, or else the MTA would be depriving many women (and men) of this distinct pleasure. The FDNY unveiled their annual calendar yesterday at South Street Seaport. Women swooned over the firefighters, who took......
