Around 10:30 this morning, a police officer was stabbed in the skull while responding to a call about an emotionally disturbed man. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly showed the knife, with a 3.5" blade, to the media and said, "Today is another reminder that in a split second, a police officer’s life can be placed in great jeopardy." Kelly said that the "blade penetrated the brain" of Officer Eder Loor, 28. Loor underwent immediate surgery and doctors are "cautiously optimistic."

Naked Man Causes Strange Disturbance In Harlem
A naked man caused a disturbance that resulted in the injury of two police officers in Harlem yesterday. The Post reports that the NYPD responded to several calls of an unclothed man making death threats and "rolling around on the pavement" between Amsterdam Avenue and Convent Avenue on West 145th Street. The NYPD wouldn't give us any more details, but FDNY/EMS tells us that there was a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the scene as police tried to subdue the man.
NYPD Officers Rescue Suicidal Man From Ledge Of Manhattan Bridge
A 34-year-old man who was preparing to jump off the Manhattan Bridge yesterday afternoon is safe thanks to the swift response of three NYPD officers. Responding to a 911 call of a man walking along the outer edge of the bridge, Officers Anthony Brooks and Daniel Sandberg and William Cooper found the man facing the water. "He had a look in his eyes like he wasn't all therelike he was somewhere else," Brooks told the Post. "In this situation we couldn't wait for ESU to get there because he was going to make a move."
Video: Deranged Man Kicks Tents At Occupy Wall Street, Delighting NY Post
The NY Post's contempt for Occupy Wall Street has fully blossomed into gleeful, unbridled derision. Today's cover story is OCCUPY WALL STREET ANIMALS GO WILD, with the lede: "This is the new face of Zuccotti Park!" Well, it's certainly the Post's new face of Zuccotti Park:
Never A Dull Moment In Williamsburg's McCarren Park
McCarren Park: Where dominatrixes take their slaves for recreation, where ladies in bikinis and drunken Polish men proudly sunbathe, and where "hipsters" funnel their parents' hard-earned money into the multi-billion dollar Turkey's Nest empire. Also: where women strip naked and start throwing punches during softball practice. Yes, over Memorial Day weekend, members of the Williamsburg softball league got quite an eyeful from a woman described on their website as a "crazy bitch" or, "CB" for short:

Sword-Swinging UES Man Is Totally Harmless, Swears Dad
On Saturday afternoon, Upper East Side resident John Orna called police because his son Justin, who is in his 30s and lives with his dad, was flipping out and trashing the apartment. And when police arrived, Justin allegedly grabbed a three-foot-long decorative sword from the wall and brandished it at the cops. Luckily for him, police handled the situation with a great deal of restraint, and talked Justin into putting the sword down, and no one was hurt. He was taken from the building screaming incoherently and delivered to Bellevue for a psychiatric evaluation, but his father is standing by his son, and insisting he's just a little hyperactive.
NYPD Lawyer: Cops Who Shot Attacker Should Have Retreated
A lawyer for the NYPD says two truancy officers who were attacked by an emotionally disturbed man swinging a chair at them should have hid in the bushes instead of opening fire and killing the perp. The incident took place on November 13th, 2008, when officers Dawn Ortiz and India Archie confronted Gilberto Blanco, a 45-year-old unemployed and homeless construction worker, as he allegedly tried to break into a car in a church parking lot. Ortiz claims Blanco came at them with a metal chair, ignoring bilingual orders to drop it. And when he got within a foot from Ortiz, she shot him dead. But although the two officers were presented with "Cop of the Year" awards, at a ceremony attended by Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, they face disciplinary action over the shooting.
Jumper Talked Down From GW Bridge
Last night, around 8 p.m., a man was seen on the cables of the George Washington Bridge, closer to the NJ side and over a roadway. A source told Cliffview Pilot, "He is near the top of the cables and wants to come down but needs help"—apparently he didn't want to jump but he wanted ESU to get him. The source added, "He is calm and cooperative now. He has changed his mind." The bridge's upper level was closed until the Port Authority police were able to rescue him.
Barneys Warehouse Sale Briefly Blocked By NYPD
Yesterday evening, the police blocked off part of West 17th Street in Manhattan to deal with an EDP. Racked reports that the activity prevented shoppers from getting to Barneys Warehouse Sale, leading to speculation "that someone had gone crazy in the shoe section." However, Racked found out that it was an "'anti-sociable individual' was throwing bottles" from a building down the street, though cops "seemed highly amused by the rumors of a hostage situation at the Barneys sale."
Machete-Wielding Man Shot By Police
Police shot an East Flatbush man four times in the legs after he lunged at them with a machete last night. Three officers encountered the 49-year-old after responding to a call from the man's daughter alerting them of an emotionally disturbed person in their East 94th Street residence, according to the Times. When the cops arrived at the door, the man approached them with the blade. After "pepper spray failed to subdue the man," an NYPD sergeant fired 13 shots, hitting him in both legs. The man, whose name has not yet been released, had no previous arrest record. In past years, machetes have been used in multiple stabbings, including several gang-related incidents in Williamsburg.
Insane East Side Chase Leads Cop to Pass Off His Gun
It was only after all this that the officer ended up passing his gun over to the janitor who had unknowingly lent his uniform to the suspect, 51-year-old Placido Contreras. As the cop wrestled with a bloody McNair, he passed his gun to Contreras and told him, "Keep your eyes on him and shoot him if you have to." The janitor told the Post that it was the first time he held a real gun.
NYPD's Fatal Shooting of Knife-Wielding Woman Investigated
Yesterday's shooting by NYPD officers of a woman who was repeatedly stabbing a cop with a 12-inch knife could have been prevented if a Taser could have been used at the scene of the incident. But the dangerous conditions of the woman's Canarsie apartment that police entered into wouldn't allow it.
NYPD Standoff in East Elmhurst
The police are currently trying to negotiate with an emotionally disturbed man in the East Elmhurst section of Queens. The police have been in contact with the man since 10 p.m. last night: According to WCBS 2, "Police said a 911 call was made of a man ranting and raving out of a home on 2504 Humphrey Street...The man fired several shots in the general vicinity of officers around 11:45 p.m., police said. One bullet kicked up off the ground and debris struck the ankle of one of the cops." And WABC 7 reports other shots were fired later. The police have closed the streets and evacuated other residents from their homes.
Cops Stabbed in Queens, One May Lose Eye
A number of cops were injured when responding to calls about an emotionally disturbed man on Collier Avenue in Queens. According to the Daily News, "Sgt. Timothy Smith, 35, was taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan after being sliced under the left eye with a switchblade." The cops were trying to subdue Meil Perreira, who was charged at them with a hunting knife. He tried to escape and Smith apparently fired a Taser after him, but Perreira still managed to slash Smith in the face and two others officers in the hand (a fourth was bitten). 1010 WINS learns doctors "are unsure if they will be able to save the [Smith]'s eye."
Woman Takes Much Scarier Polar Bear Plunge in East River
A woman who is believed to have possibly been chasing after her purse had to be pulled out of the East River after jumping in around 10 p.m. last night. The emotionally disturbed 23-year-old was stuck under a dock near East 30th Street after spending around twenty minutes in the water, the temperature of which hovers around 40 degrees this time of year. After struggling with police trying to pull her out, cops had to tie a rope around the woman in order to force her back onto land. She was brought to Bellevue and is in stable condition while being treated for hypothermia. She may not have made it that far had she not been spotted by a valet at the nearby Water Club restaurant. Dan Sweeney told the Post, "She didn't seem to be drunk or anything. But I really don't know what happened to her." Just earlier this week, we found a non-profit group imagining a swimmable East River, but even Kramer needed a little Hollywood magic in order to take his famous plunge in it a decade ago.
Man on Ledge Thought He Was a Demon
More details were revealed today about Rodulfo Jones, the man who stood on a ledge for 13 hours after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend. Jones, an off-duty NYPD traffic agent, was saying that he was "a demon" and wept as police tried to talk him down. By the time he was finally ready to leave the ledge, he talked about how out of character this was and continually asked about his girlfriend's condition. The only thing covering him, his boxer shorts, were stained with the blood of girlfriend Carmen Valez, who remains in critical condition. A police source tells the NY Post that the cops involved were making sure "to have to come in on his own" after the September incident with Iman Morales. "He was definitely thinking about jumping, but we talked that out of him," one of the officers on the scene told the paper.
