-Atlanta 102 New York 92: The Knicks missed a great chance to open the season at 2-0. Facing an Atlanta team that only managed to win 26 games last year. New York turned the ball over 17 times and never got the big basket they needed to make it a game.

After taking game one in Miami, the Nets had to think they would be back for game five no worse than even 2-2 in the series. After Sunday's 102-92 loss to the Heat at home, the Nets found themselves in a cruel position: facing elimination when they travel back to South Beach. Not only must the Nets come back from a 3-1 defecit, but they must do it by winning two games on the road. Given the Nets' play at home, Gothamist finds that prospect unlikey.

The Knicks finally won something this season; unfortunately it was only the slam-dunk contest. Nate Robinson, only 5’9” provided a spectacular slam, soaring over the similarly vertically challenged (for the NBA) Spud Webb to force the first ever dunk off. It took him 13 tries, but Robinson executed a nifty pass between the legs/throw off the backboard slam to win the contest.

Playoff basketball in the NYC area came and went just that fast. The Nets are done for the season after a 110-97 loss to Miami on Sunday afternoon. Dwayne Wade continued to torch the Nets with explosive play; amazingly, Wade averaged 26 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds per game for the series in just his second NBA season. Add those stats to those of 3-time champion Shaq, and the Nets were doomed.

That lottery pick going to Cleveland is probably looking pretty good to the Nets this morning. Despite a defense-heavy, double-overtime effort, New Jersey once again fell to Miami last night 108-105 at the swamp. Though Shaq was saddled with foul trouble and Richard Jefferson played great defense against Dwayne Wade, the Nets just couldn't put the game away. At one point, R.J. completely blew an uncontested lay-up...which is when Nets fans knew it was over.

After a strong win in Philadelphia on Wednesday night, the Nets returned home for a tough game versus the East-leading Miami Heat. The results weren't pretty, particularly in the second half. Miami dominated NJ with a 106-90 victory near Shaq's hometown of Newark. Dwayne Wade led the Heat in scoring with 27, and Shaq also had 20 points. Vince Carter threw in 27 for the Nets, but cooled off toward the end of the game.

Despite a truly determined and aggressive double-digit comeback in last night’s 4th quarter, the Knicks dropped their 17th game in 20 contests by a score of 116-110. How, you ask? With the score tied at 95 and the clock at under 10 seconds, Marbury drove into the paint, froze, and then lobbed the ball to Kurt Thomas, who perhaps had one second to throw up an awful, off-balance shot. This isn’t Thomas’ fault – Marbury did the exact same thing to Jamal Crawford last time we visited. While Stephon can certainly score (36 points), his decision-making leaves much to be desired.

The Heat started well and never really let the Knicks into the game, capitalizing on the Knicks' lack of an actual center by, as Bill Walton might say, throwing the ball to the big fella and getting out of the way. Shaq had 33 along with 18 rebounds to lead Miami, while Dwayne Wade added 21 as he continues his ascent to stardom (having Shaq on his team seems to have helped a lot). As for the Knicks, they shot almost 51% for the game but were outrebounded handily and didn't get enough shot attempts to climb back in the second half.
