Officials Investigating Continental Bar's "Racist" Door Policy

Last month, members of the group Answers Coalition protested outside of the Third Avenue bar the Continental, accusing the bar of having a racist door policy. Owner Trigger Smith was defiant in the face of their criticisms of his "unwritten dress code," and there was another demonstration yesterday outside the club. Protesters Accuse Continental Bar of Racist Door Policy

On Friday night about 30 people demonstrated outside Continental, the bar on Third Avenue near St. Mark's Place that used to be a grungy music venue and is now just another bar. Protesters carried signs blasting the bar for a racist door policy, and one demonstrator, Shaniqua Pippen, told the Local, "This is the first protest. And I feel like if we continue more people will come, and something will change." Pippen claims that when she tried to patronize Continental in June, a bouncer, who is also black, told her "Your kind don’t know how to act." Not to be outdone by that measly $1 billion class action lawsuit filed against Greenhouse—the "eco-friendly" but allegedly black-unfriendly downtown nightclub—some other offended blacks have stepped up with their own $1.5 billion lawsuit! Greenhouse Shut Down After Stabbing, Owner Denies Racism

[UPDATE BELOW] Rumors are swirling about a stabbing at the downtown nightclub Greenhouse, and according to one employee, the club was shut down last night. The closure comes as Greenhouse owners fend off allegations that the club denied entry to approximately 100 people because they are black. Two people have filed a $1 billion class action lawsuit against the ostensibly "eco-friendly" nightclub, accusing the bouncer of barring them from author Teri Woods's book party in August.
