Is this rollercoaster ride going to end the same way CBGBs did? At the end of March nightlife mainstay Don Hill died, leaving behind his club, Don Hill's, on Spring and Greenwich streets. Though Paul Sevigny and Nur Khan fully took over operations, the real estate vultures seemed to be circling the one-story building sitting on a prime plot of land in Manhattan. By the end of April it was announced that Don Hill's would close, and a developer would take over the SoHo spot. But now according to the Villager, Don Hill's isn't going anywhere... yet!
Is Don Hill's Saved Or Doomed To Become The Next CBGBs?
NYers Remember Don Hill & His Debauched Club (Against All Odds)
We first caught wind of Don Hill's by way of a downtown playwright who told us he needed to go home and get some rest instead of spending another night at Don Hill's "blowing rails off some model's ass." That such a utopia existed wasn't revealed to us until the turn of the century (we're not that cool?); by then the deliriously debauched nightclub had already been going strong for seven years, and to this day it's still a place where everyone can cut loose like a C-list rock star, or some nobody with infinite potential and nothing to lose.

Despite Great Adversity, "Artist" Michael T. Will Survive
Panic gripped a sizable number of New York night crawlers last fall when both the holiday-timed Motherf*cker freakfest and popular posture party Misshapes were derailed within months of each other. Today the Times checks in on distraught survivors like one Melissa Maino, partygoer: “It’s been rough. Going [to Motherf*cker] was what I depended on for New Year’s Eve. [Its end] was definitely heartbreaking.”
2007 Exit Interview: Thomas Onorato
We checked in with some folks recently for a little end of '07 "exit interview" before we enter a new year. Thomas Onorato was the subject of a tell-all titled Confessions From the Velvet Rope last year -- but what has the self-proclaimed "door bitch" been doing in 2007?

MOVIE: By now you've probably seen Grizzly Man. The Werner Herzog directed documentary depicts one (slightly off kilter) man's relationship with nature. Over the course of 13 summers, Timothy Treadwell lived amongst the animals - most notably the bears, in the Alaskan wild. You know this doesn't end well.
Don Hill's is not The Factory
The New York Times reports on The Misshapes once again (according to Gawker, the 10th time in under a year).
Extra, Extra
-- And some sad news to end the day: another biker was killed today, this time at 9th Avenue and 29th Street by a truck making a right-hand turn. This follows an accident last night at S4th and Roebling in Williamsburg that left a biker "severely injured." Please be careful out there!
Nightclub Update: Lawsuit, More Underage Incidents, and the Law
The two women who were shot outside of Crobar last month are now suing the club for $20 million each, claiming there was inadequate security. Antoinette Bryan and Angelita Dunkley, who still haven't returned to their jobs due to their injuries, told the Daily News there should have been metal detectors at the club.
Gothamist Music Picks: The "Please Excuse Our Appearance As We Undergo Renovations" Edition
We hope you like change, because there's sure a lot of it when it comes to who's writing the music picks. Now, on to the picks...while we'll be down in Austin for SXSW this week, we aren't taking every band with us. There will be plenty to rock out to in the city, and as an added bonus, it's St. Patrick's Day this weekend...so your rock will be mixed with green beer.
Upcoming: The Champagne Edition
It's that time of year again. The time of year we spend entirely too much money on going to a bar or party or club that any other night would cost nothing to enter. But we go, we pay and we fight the Bridge & Tunnel crowd for a spot at the bar. Why? We don't know. It's just part of NYE in NYC. This year we're fleeing the country, but for those of you staying on the island here's a list of parties to go to (that is, of course, if none of your friends will have you at theirs):
Drink Up: Gothamist Stops By Sly
Gothamist likes the the Siberian outer reaches of Soho- we like the dancing to Britpop at the Tiswas party at Don Hill's, we like getting our name chosen at name night at Antartica (where when we're not drinking for free, their mixed drinks in pint glasses are a great deal) and we've gone to some great parties at Sway lately. After visitng the new bar Sly, we're adding it to the list, as a pre-dancing or immediately after work, if not sooner, drink spot.
