Grand Central Terminal gets the full PBS American Experience treatment with this documentary from filmmaker Michael Epstein (Monday & Thursday, 9:00 p.m., WNET 13). The one hour film traces the history of the terminal, its construction and its impact on New York and the rest of the world. Expect tales of robber barons, dead commuters, and of course fawning over an architectural treasure.

Adam Sandler is showing his serious side again in "Reign Over Me" (named loosely after the Pete Townshend-penned song “Love, Reign O’er Me”). The film, also starring Don Cheadle, is the first to use the events of 9/11 as a plot device.

We were walking around the Upper West Side when we noticed that part of West 72nd Street and Columbus Avenue had been cordoned off by a film or TV production. Was it more Bruce-and-Halle filming? Or August Rush? Or Dedication? Or a Law & Order? But actually it was Reign O'er Me. Gothamist wracked our brain, because the name had sounded familiar... and then we found a production letter: It's the September 11-related movie with Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle. Oh, boy. On IMDB, it's called Empty City, and the description is this:

A man (Sandler) who lost his family in the September 11 attack on New York City runs into his old college roommate (Cheadle). Rekindling the friendship is the one thing that appears able to help the man recover from his grief.

Cheadle plays a psychiatrist, and last we read, Jada Pinkett Smith was going to play his wife, with Liv Tyler playing another psychiatrist and Saffron Burrows playing playing a patient of Cheadle's character who has "entanglements with both" men. Hmm! Now, the film is written and directed by Mike Binder, who we're predisposed to dislike because we hated his baby, The Mind of the Married Man, aka, an HBO show almost as bad as Arli$$. But The Upside of Anger wasn't that bad, so we're hopeful, as we do like Sandler (hey, he was great in Punch Drunk Love) and love Cheadle. And Sandler said on his website that this would be a "serious movie."

When we woke up this morning, Gothamist hoped last night's Oscars were only a dream. Because the idea that Crash won still hurts our head so much that we haven't been able to really read all the nitty-gritty (because we know our eyes will start bleeding) - we can't believe we frigging liveblogged that shondah! Forget conspiracy theories about Jack Palance being wacked out and mistakenly reading Marisa Tomei's name as Best Supporting Actress in 1992 (maybe over Judy Davis) - this will bet he conspiracy theory to talk about for ages. Or maybe everyone in Hollywood really does love Don Cheadle, even though he wasn't allowed a producer credit at the Oscars. We don't know - and just to spite you, Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, Gothamist will be attempting to only watch movies on DVD whenever possible - screw you and your horrible voting tactics. But we'll see you next year, with clenched teeth, some ibuprofen and a hotline to our shrink.

Matson suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome, which is apparently blamed on a strained relationship with school administrators, and while she's been on unpaid leave since earlier this year (at her request), Matson has conducted twice. Matson's argument is that since she's away from the environment causing her CFS, then she is able to conduct! This is definitely a classier second job that former social studies teacher Matthew Kaye's wrestling gig, but the fact that Kaye had his mom or sister call the school saying he was sick while he was really on the road takes the cake. The Board of Education is investigating whether or not Matson should repay the school for the fake sick days and they are "seeking her termination."

You know it's the Oscars when P. Diddy busts out the velvet suit! Gothamist loves the Oscars, and we're going to attempt to do a little liveblogging. We might need to order a vat of caffeine and an EMT team at the ready; not because Chris Rock will be boring, but because we think that Gil Cates might kill us with his newfangled ideas and because we're meh about this year's nominees in the big categories. Anyway, onto the show.
