Quinn Pushes For Open Information on Same-Sex Marriage

Now that domestic partnerships can come with a ceremony, Council Speaker Christine Quinn is pushing for same-sex couples to get another step closer to marriage. She is backing a plan that would require clerks to inform same-sex couples applying for the partnerships of the five states and countries where they could legally wed. She hopes the plan would inspire lawmakers to legalize same-sex marriage in New York, telling the Daily News, "It think it will speak volumes about the inequality in our state. Only Two Couples Get Domestic Partnership Ceremonies So Far

The City Clerk's office began offering marriage-like ceremonies for couples entering into domestic partnerships on Thursday, but so far just two couples have taken advantage of the new service. City Clerks Will Conduct Domestic Partnership Ceremonies

Starting June 3rd, the City Clerk's office will begin performing marriage-like services for couples registering for a Domestic Partnership—about 30% of whom are gay. Up until now, any couple applying for a Domestic Partnership would just receive a piece of paper signifying their commitment.
