Steven Moffat has had a very busy year. Not only did the prolific television writer take over as Executive Producer for the long-running British series Doctor Who, he also helped guide a highly successful modern retelling of the Sherlock Holmes stories (Sherlock) to the small screen. The sixth season of the restarted Doctor Who returns to the air this weekend on BBC America—for the first time episodes will air in the UK and US the same day—and we sat down with Moffatt before the very well attended premiere to talk about similarities between the Doctor and the Holmes, why the show is so popular with kids in the Britain, his insanely busy schedule, and just how much of the Doctor's story he knows.

Doctor Who Fans Don't Mind Sleeping On The Street
A "nerd shantytown" has settled on Second Avenue in anticipation of the return of Doctor Who. Fans have reportedly been lining up outside of the East Village Cinemas on Second and 12th since last night for a chance to see a sneak peak of the rebooted British mainstay's sixth season (which returns to BBC America on the 23rd). After years of the Doctor being one of those things that the Brits obsessed about and Americans scratched their heads over, it seems that the times are changing in favor of the Time Lord. We haven't seen a line like this one since Apple dropped the iPad 2.
Noteworthy Television This Weekend: British Sci-Fi Double Feature
If you are looking for some good television (you know, the kind with actual scripts), BBC America delivers a one-two punch on Saturday night with the season debuts of two British sci-fi shows – Doctor Who (8:00 p.m.) and its spin-off Torchwood (9:00 p.m.). The episodes of Torchwood are a bit fresher, airing a few weeks ago in the UK, while the Doctor Who episodes aired last spring over the pond.
