Thanks everyone so much for coming by and supporting all the unbelievable bands we had at The House yesterday. It really played out just as we could have ever imagined/hoped it would. Can't wait to get it all going again today!

Today is officially the first day of CMJ! Starting this afternoon and going strong through the weekend, every music club in the city is going to be jam packed with hours upon hours of the hottest up and coming bands from all over the world. Seeing that we'd expect your regular Gothamist reader won't be equipped with a $500 badge, we decided to highlight some of the standout free events this week. While you will still be able to get into nearly all the night showcases by paying at the door, many of these bands will be playing for free anyway while they're in town.
Well, this is it. Next Friday's lineup at the White Rabbit. We've already posted Thursday and Saturday's shows, and here is the last one. Friday afternoon from 2-8. Come hang out and see all these great bands playing acoustic or stripped down sets with us. As with the rest of the days, the show is completely free, open to the public, and there is no badge or wristband or RSVP or anything like that required. We are absolutely stoked about how well this has all turned out, and hope see everyone at there next week!
As the holiday countdown continues, this part of Gothamist has noticed that the number of major national touring acts has dwindled. All those midwestern indie-rockers had to get back to the Mall of America and finish up their shopping. Luckily, this is New York, where there are no malls, but there are hundreds of bands eager to play for indifferent ears no matter the season. This week, here's who should be on your list:
Saturday: Partly to mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs around 80 degrees. Lows in the low 70s. [via WNBC]
What a disaster yesterday was. After prominently featuring the Cloud Cult show at Knitting Factory last week, it ends up the show was never actually happening. If you bought tickets, contact Knitting Factory and/or Ticketweb and get your money back. The good news: we wouldn't have been able to talk about Cloud Cult on Gothamist otherwise, so hopefully you discovered a great new band (still haven't listened?).
