NYPD Catches Crime Spree Quartet Thanks To NJ Cop
It's easy to get frustrated with the NYPD with all the reports of quotas, stat manipulation, and improper bike-lane usage, but once in a while they get to do some real detective work and prove themselves entirely capable. Or maybe just lucky: the NYPD announced that they have arrested four men who are charged with perpetrating a three-month crime spree, robbing 19 businesses across the city. And we have a NJ detective to thank for the catch.
Bloomberg: No Sympathy For Frequently-Towed Detectives
Mayor Bloomberg says NYPD detectives should start parking their cars legally instead of complaining about an Internal Affairs Bureau tow truck unit that has been towing their unmarked vehicles. "They can tell it to the judge or tell it to their precinct commander, and they'll work it out," Bloomberg told the Daily News. "The law should apply to everyone."

Investigators have released surveillance videos of a man they believe viciously attacked and possibly sexually assaulted a woman in a Midtown bar after she refused to dance with him. Update: Authorities Uncover Bones In Queens Basement
[UPDATE BELOW]: Investigators searching for the remains of a Baruch College student who disappeared 12 years ago uncovered bones in the basement of a Queens store. Law enforcement officials haven't yet linked the bones to 28-year-old undergraduate student Kristina Kupka, who vanished after her married chemistry professor got her pregnant. According to the Post, an anthropologist and the Medical Examiner's Office are studying the bones to see if they are human. If the remains are human, authorities will conduct further tests to determine if they can be linked to Kupka.
Been Arrested? NYPD Knows Your Tattoos, Limps, Skin Blotches
While the NYPD continues to rely on old-fashioned stop-and-frisks, the department is also fighting crime with a high-tech computer database that parses through police records, accident reports and other documents to quickly find the identities of suspects and victims. In a room that reportedly "resembles a Las Vegas sports book" or a set from Judge Dredd, detectives search through databases of tattoos, birthmarks and scars, missing teeth and gold teeth, limps and their severity, and skin blotches.
Sean Bell's Family Wants Cops Kicked Off The Force
A day after federal investigators announced that there is "insufficient evidence" to pursue a civil rights case against the officers who shot and killed Sean Bell, relatives of the 23-year-old said they are after the officers' badges. "Myself and my family are going to do everything possible to see that these police officers are fired," said Bell's fiancee, Nicole Paultre-Bell. "There is a history of black men being killed by police officers, and something needs to be done ... We're hoping to eventually meet with President Obama, and that he'll do something, because this is a national problem."

Mystery Homicide in the Bronx
Police and firefighters are investigating the cause of death of a man who died late yesterday evening in the Bronx. The two standout theories are that he died because he was on fire or because he may have been shot. The still-unidentified man stumbled in the first floor hallway of the Eastchester Houses on Adee Ave. in the Bronx around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night; he was on fire and collapsed. Responding firefighters declared him dead at the scene. The fire in the man's apartment took about an hour to extinguish.
"Security" vs. "Chauffeur" for Mistress and Rudy's Selective Hearing
It appears that Judith Nathan, the current Mrs. Giuliani, may have been enjoying taxpayer-funded car service provided by the police while her affair with former Mayor Giuliani was unknown. Giuliani's admitted that he gave his girlfriend a security detail once their relationship became public because of possible threats against her, but it appears that Nathan was enjoying New York's Finest as a taxi service months before anyone even knew the two were involved with each...
