MTA workers cleaning near the Deer Park Long Island Rail Road station made a horrifying find: Apparently 12 black plastic bags had the remains of goats, chickens and roosters. Suffolk County SPCA chief Roy Gross told WCBS 2, "All of the animals were decapitated. Approximately 20 in all.”

Cops: DWI Driver Crashed Into Teens, Stashed Syringes In Panties
A Long Island woman was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs after allegedly running over a group of teenagers walking next to a road in Deer Park on Sunday night around 11:45 p.m. Cathleen Wild, 28, of Lindenhurst, is being held on $100,000 bail, and police say she was driving with a suspended license when she struck three 16-year-olds walking on Grand Boulevard during a scavenger hunt. One reason they believe she was drugged up is that they found syringes in her panties.
LIRR is Mending the Gap at Stations
The Long Island Rail Road has been starting to fill in gaps at certain train platforms in the wake of various customer falls. Eighteen year old Natalie Smead, visiting from Minnesota and on her way to Manhattan for a concert, fell in the gap at the Woodside stop and was fatally hit by a train when she tried to get out of the tracks. Newsday found that the gaps at Woodside were as wide at 15 inches. Oddly enough, the Woodside station wasn't on the initial list of stations whose platform gaps needed to be closed (at this point, tracks at Shea Stadium, Jamaica, Southampton and Deer Park have been fixed).
