While we're still iPhone-less (AT&T Activation has been screwing up about 38% of the purchases), we're not above recalling the frenzy from Friday night. Gothamist went out with vdeographer Kelly Loudenberg to check out the line, chat with some of the people (dog Beta and his owner Dan, Kensu who is blogging at The Story Gets Deeper, and others), and marvel at the madhouse. The NY Times' David Pogue gave us his impression of the crowd, too.

With lines of potential customers snaking around the block, New York's Apple Stores on Fifth Avenue and in SoHo opened their doors at 6PM for the launch of the iPhone, the unbelievably hyped multi-functioning personal accessory.

There is a lot to be said about Warren Buffett's announcement that most of his billions-of-dollars fortune will be given to charities, with particular focus on giving about $31 billion to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. And we hope his actions, as well as those of the Gateses, reverbate through billionaire and millionaire circles, because giving back to the world that made them rich makes sense - tax incentives or no. For instance, when Ted Turner donated $1 billion to the U.N. in stock, he said, "When I got my statement in January. I was worth $2.2 billion. Then I got another statement in August that said I was worth $3.2 billion. So I figure its only nine months' earnings, who cares?"
In our never ending struggle to find more ways to piss away our time, we were browsing through some of the weird links the New York Times sticks waaaay down at the bottom of the left menu. That's when we happened to notice NYTimes Video, a huge arcihve of video shorts produced by Times staffers. There's lots of fun stuff down there-- one-minute movie reviews, David Pogue videoblogging at CES, recipes in Dining and Wine, Theatre Reviews, and even some local news. It's not quite NY1, but it's a good way to kill a half hour.
