Jay-Z Around Town With a new, critically acclaimed album out and a refocused approach to his craft, Jay-Z took the stage twice this week in the Big Apple. For the relatively intimate events at Hammerstein and The Apollo, there was no shortage of friends and guests out to show support for Hov's return to form. Diddy, Nas, Lil Wayne and...Lebron James (?!?) all made appearances between the two shows. Lebron skipped a game to attend...

Van Halen is back, and will rock the city. At least, those are the rumors that accompany news the band is hitting the road for the first time in 20 years with original lead singer David Lee Roth. We suppose if Mick Jagger is still at it - Roth can probably still "jump" at the age of 53 (though we hope he leaves the assless chaps at home).

Before getting cast on the Surreal Life, going to rehab, getting engaged...or whatever else celebrities do while white knuckling on to their career and/or become "edgier", they go to Misshapes. Love it or hate it, this party gets more press than some of it's guest stars on the decks.

- The Tram is running again. Without passengers, of course.

- And it's National High Five Day

So, Howard Stern is on the air - if you happen to get Siruis satellite. Is anyone listening right now? We saw him on Larry King Live, where he explained why his daughter quit the off-Broadway show she was going to be nude in (Stern's claim - the producer betrayed his daughter by saying he wasn't going to publicize Howard Stern's daughter would be naked on stage) and who his best and worst interviews were (best: Arnold, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Anka; worst: Gilda Radner). Well, maybe getting Howard Stern on satellite TV will be funny.

So, tomorrow will mark the first day of K-Rock's transformation into Free FM, which means David Lee Roth will be taking over New York's airwaves. The Free FM bio for the former Van Halen front man and certified EMT is PR pitch-perfect: "By the time he reached his mid-20s, Roth was a world-class frontman with platinum albums from his work with his high school buddies, Van Halen." But, in his NY Post interview, Roth was a little more colorful. When referencing his uncle, Manny Roth, founder of Cafe Wha?, he said, "Uncle Manny was the guy who hired Bob Dylan on January 24, 1961, for the first time in this city. Manny is now 88 and his wife is 51, which means that my future wife just passed driver's ed." Ew! Gothamist would rather he stick to stories about him being an EMT in the Bronx.

Continuing to show that it don't know Jack, Infinity Broadcasting announced that 92.3 KRock is moving to an all-talk forma, confirming the rumors that were around last week. Moreover, David Lee Roth will be hosting the morning drive show! Yes, that Van Halen lead signer and certified EMT David Lee Roth! Gothamist can't wait for stories about getting busted for buying a dimebag in Washington Square Park and how crazy Eddie Van Halen is. The L.A. market gets Adam Carolla. According to the Infinity press release, Penn Jillette will also be hosting a one-hour program in NYC as well as other markets, which confuses Gothamist as he won't be able to tell the Aristocrats nor will he be able to do magic on air effectively. Maybe he'll just reveal magician's tricks.

And the photo is from This Old Toy, which looked at Fisher Price's Little People. Man, Gothamist barely recognizes the Little People today - their faces are so much more articulated!

Other celebrities who sometimes do everyday kinds of jobs: Steve Buscemi helps out with firefighters and Amy Sedaris waits tables at Mary's Fish Camp.

When The Fresh isn't playing some hip venue in the Silver Lake region (that's LA's answer to Williamsburg), we're betting he's locked up in an artificially dark room somewhere just south of Hollywood Blvd surrounded by keyboards and guitars. A virtual mad scientist of musical standards, the Fresh isn't a musician, he's a performer. An award winning one at that, just ask the Malibu Film Festival. To learn more about the Fresh check out his website, where you can download most of his songs. His debut east coast performance is Tuesday at the Gothamist show, so be sure to get there for his 8pm set (more details after the interview).

With siblings at Harvard and Princeton, plus attention on her wealthy family, the papers are painting a picture of a rich girl desperately trying to find herself, using the drugs to make friends and drugdealing as a way to be "down." Diaco befriended the homeless and brought them back to her dorm and fed them. But the craziest thing is that Newsday says that many female NYU student avoid Washington Square Park, while Diaco frequented it. There are so many female students in the park! That's how you get the class! Anyway, one of her homeless friends, Jameil Wilson says he warned her about selling drugs in the park, because of the many cops (this is true - even David Lee Roth was arrested there buying a dimebag), as well attests to the quality of the pot Diaco sold, "She sold me some weed a couple of times. It was pretty good stuff."
