- If you like winter sports, do we have some good news for you! Not only is it bone chillingly cold out, but this weekend is the 2nd annual Winter Jam in Central Park. They are making snow for Saturday's event (from noon until 4). Activities include cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice sculpting, an amateur rail jam, and free hot chocolate. Snowmaking began on Monday and continues through today. When done, there will be 2 feet of snow for Saturday.

Guess who's playing Santa? It's David Wright, Mets heartthrob, playing St. Nick, with manager Willie Randolph and our favorite, Mr. Met. The Mets were giving out presents to children from public schools at Shea Stadium today - those are some lucky kids! Do they really get a day off school for that?

-Yankees 9 Orioles 6: It took awhile, but the Yankees’ offense finally came alive in the seventh. After watching Randy Johnson struggle through six innings, New York erupted for six runs in the seventh; the key hit a three-run double by Robinson Cano to erase a four-run deficit.

- Mets 11, Rockies 3: Would it be safe to say that David Wright is out of his slump? We'll see when he leaves the friendly atmosphere of Colorado, but last night it certainly looked like it. Wright had a grand slam in the 1st inning against Josh Fogg. Jose Valentin added to the offensive production with two solo home runs of his own and Carlos Delgado had his own solo shot. Dave Williams pitched seven innings for the win, his second with the Mets. The win gave the Mets the best record in all of baseball.

Met fans had to be disappointed with their team's 5-3 loss to the Phillies Thursday afternoon, but they likely got a kick of out WFAN personalities Chris Russo and Mike Francesa in their role as commenators. The hosts of Mike and the Mad Dog won't make Gothamist forget Bob Murphy, but they didn't disgrace themselves either. Russo did seven innings of play by play, and he brought his usual energy and trademark cackling laugh to the booth. He developed some catchphrases (each inning ended with "and that's that") and pointed out the absurdity of the contest which awarded a listener if the Mets turned a triple play in a particular inning. Francesa's play by play did not match Russo's, but they worked well together and gave basic and tolerable color commentary.
