Now that the snow is a slushy, disgusting mess, Gothamist has distance from this morning's troublesome commute (note to self: Wear wading boots and carry snow boots). But Toby at Random Observations has amazing analysis of the local news' weather coverage. Crazy graphics? Check. Maps of snowfall? Check. School closing alerts? Check. Not only did CBS take honors for being in "Weather Orgasm mode," "Dave Price made an appearance making a fool out of himself and a CBS producer in Central Park" (which is a little redundant anyway!).
CBS New York morning anchor Jim Ryan is doing the show from various locations for a Breakfast With Jim Ryan segment each day. Now, if you've been watching the local news for a while, you'll know Jim from hosting Good Day New York on Channel 5. We always thought that Jim was at his best when he was needling weather man Dave Price, who moved over to CBS a while ago, so we were thrilled that they could be reunited. Today he was at Mike's Deli (you can see the segment here) on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, and tomorrow he'll be at Natives in Queens. CBS 2 is taking suggestions on fun places for him to hang out (email CBS2Crew@cbs.com), and ours would be the Fairway Cafe (interaction with insane Upper West Side shoppers) or a Chinatown dim sum emporium like Triple 8 Palace (eat pigs knuckles at 5:30AM!). Do you have picks for breakfast fun?
In this week's weather media wrap up we’d like to discuss the now famous face of Dave Price. This once local weatherman, now the CBS Early Show's national weather guy, seems to be doing quite well for himself. A lot of New Yorkers are ambivalent about Dave and Gothamist understands why. He’s such a nerd and not in the hip way but in the 'a bit clueless to pop culture' way. However, there are some other things that you might not know about him that could help you understand him better AND hopefully like him.
