  • Brooklyn 3, Hudson Valley 2: Ezequiel Carrera stole the show in this one. He went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored in his team's win.

  • With unseasonable weather descending upon much of North America, schools getting ready to reconvene, and sports seasons getting exciting, it's a busy time of year for us here in the Ist-A-Verse. Luckily, even with all the things we have to do, we still managed to get together to let you know what we've all been up to.

    What with Paris Hilton's release earlier this week and the upcoming celebration of American Independence (sorry, Londonist!), we've been thinking a lot about freedom. Freedom to vote, freedom to choose, and most importantly, freedom to blog. Here are a few things we're happy we've been free to blog about this week.

  • Devils 3, Lightning 2: Martin Brodeur may have stepped up his play, but the improvement of the Devils' defense made the biggest difference. Brodeur went eight minutes at one point without having to make a save. On offense, Brian Gionta had two goals, and Patrick Elias had an assist on all three scores. New Jersey's win mean it draws Ottawa next, and the Rangers will face the Sabres.

  • Jon Benjamin started performing in Boston in the early 90's with comedian Sam Seder before getting involved with the David Cross lead Cross Comedy. Since then, he's been a fixture of comedy in all mediums. Home Movies, Wet Hot American Summer, and the popular live revue Tinkle are amongst his many credits. Gothamist sat down with Benjamin to find out more about this highly saught after comedic talent.

  • In other Yankee news, the Bronx Bombers topped the Majors in salary again, but their average salary per player dropped to $6,947,232. The Mets came in 4th with an average salary of $3,859,172 (behind the Astros and Red Sox).
  • In what has to be considered a huge upset, the Tigers defeated the Yankees 8-3 Saturday to advance to the ALCS. New York’s vaunted offense was putrid, getting only six hits and simply looking overmatched. Detroit will face Oakland starting Tuesday in a matchup of two teams with great pitching.
