Last night Culture Club celebrated their reopening and new location with an invite-only extravaganza, which was hosted by Debbie Gibson and attended by the likes of Kourtney Kardashian and her creepy American Psycho-looking husband, Scott Disick. About them... our photographer Katie Sokoler was on the scene, and tells us:

Culture Club Is Bringing The '80s Back, Again
Remember Culture Club, the ‘80s and ‘90s dance megaclub that shut down four years ago? It's baaack. And tonight they're celebrating with a little invite-only party that we hear Debbie Gibson is hosting (sorry, Tiffany). They tell us, "Culture Club creator Robert Watman has partnered with New York’s Pop icon, Debbie Gibson, to be the clubs 80’s brand ambassador." On top of that, designer Nanette Lepore has designed the staff’s uniforms.
Judge Asks Boy George: Do You Really Want Me to Arrest You?
Hahahaha. When you're a rock star who gets arrested after, uh, falsely reporting a robbery only to have the police come and find coke in your apartment, and then you ask the judge to change the term of your sentence, don't you think you should show up to court to explain why you want that sentence changed? But not Boy George! Manhattan judge Anthony Ferrara issued a warrant for the Culture Club lead singer turned failed Broadway musical impressario for not showing up to a hearing. The AP reports that Boy George, ne George O'Dowd, "was to enter a drug program in England and do five days of community service in Manhattan. He was also supposed to pay a $1,000 fine and a $160 surcharge, and avoid arrest for any reason during the next six months." However, Boy George never paid his fine or went to arrange for his Manhattan community service. Judge Ferrara issued this smackdown to Boy George's lawyer, who did show up, "I put people in jail who don't pay fines. Why shouldn't I do that? I think it's important that Mr. O'Dowd be treated like any other defendant. He did absolutely nothing after walking out of that courtroom."
Video of the Day: Tiffany at Culture Club
There was a feverish debate at Gothamist HQ about whether we should walk over to the Culture Club on Saturday night. After all, how often do you get to see Tiffany singing "I Think We're Alone Now" to a crowd of screaming 30-somethings? Eventually common sense won out and we spent the evening drinking somewhere else-- but through the power of YouTube, we can all enjoy the most important part of her performance. Question: is Tiffany lip-syncing, or is the audio just out of wack?
Upcoming
TOURNAMENT: When we were younger, we totally kicked a*s at Memory, but we're not sure that we'd do too well competing against the mental athletes at the National Memory Championship. The tournament consists of memory challenging tournament-style competitive events including memorization of: 99 names and faces, a shuffled deck of cards, an unpublished poem, speed numbers, and a list of 500 words. They will be broadcast on HDNet, Tuesday, April 18th at 10pm but you can catch them live this weekend.
Hollywood Loves The 80s
These days, reading a Hollywood trade is like seeing a TV Guide grid from the 80s - it's all about making movies from 80s TV shows. Today, Universal announced they are remaking Miami Vice, ideally with Colin Farrell and Jamie Fox as Crockett and Tubbs. Earlier this week, Stephen J. Cannell said he's going to go forward with the long-awaited A-Team movie! And Robert Luketic, best known as the director those canonical films, Legally Blonde and Win A Date With Tad Hamiltion, is going to direct the Dallas movie. There's already the Dukes of Hazzard movie in the works (Seann William Scott, Johnny Knoxville and Jessica Simpson), and there were rumors of a Dallas one. What's next? Remington Steele? Moonlighting? Murder, She Wrote? Magnum PI? Clearly, the cheesier and campier the show was, the more remake potential it has, so no Hill Street Blues or St. Elsewhere. But The Greatest American Hero - why not?
Theater Review: Awesome 80s Prom lightweight fun
Gothamist loves, loves, loves the Eighties. What's not to love about an era of big hair and Duran Duran? We watch cable reruns of Sixteen Candles and Valley Girl with glee, so it was a no-brainer to check out the Awesome 80s Prom, currrently going on downtown at Webster Hall.
