MOVIE: Jean-Luc Godard's Two or Three Things I Know About Her is playing at the Film Forum. The docu-drama exaggerates "the emotionless lives of characters in the new Paris of the 60s, where commercialism mocks families getting by on small incomes, where prostitution is a moneyspinning option, and where people are coldly resigned and immune to the human nightmares of Vietnam, and impending Atomic war."

THEATER: New York Magazine called Kanene Holder’s last solo show, SITCHAASSDOWN “21 pitch-perfect snapshots of the black experience”. His current multimedia performance art installation, Committing that Black on Black Crime Called Blackface, goes down in the front window of chashama on 37th Street. Between the hours of 5:30pm and 8pm, curious passers-by can behold Holder paying satirical homage to Buckwheat “via a self-muzzled/pantomiming character who navigates a racist cauldron of images while staring into circus mirrors for glimpses and reconfirmations of reality, by repetitively applying and removing black-face makeup. The menacing screens around him “flash a motley crew of visual memorabilia and supplanted nostalgic references to "the good ole' days" of minstrel shows then and now.” - John Del Signore

We're a little late on the music picks this week, but we have an excuse. We've been too busy being obsessed about Cloud Cult. They played our Movable Hype show on Monday night and last night they played Cross Pollination at Pianos. Both amazing sets. We now have a bold comment to make to begin this rather bold post: We like Cloud Cult more than we like Arcade Fire.

If you like quiet music, you can't beat the CMJ-sponsored lineup at Living Room tonight (Tuesday). Jose Gonzalez, making his U.S. debut, is a superstar in his home country of Sweden. You'll know why if you listen to his songs at Myspace. Doveman plays the show too. You might remember them from their appearance at Gothamist's Movable Hype and BroolynVegan's pre-CMJ concert. Up-and-comers Mike Wexler and Emm Gryner are also on the amazing (and amazingly cheap) bill. If that's all too laid back, there's always the faster and louder show right door at Pianos where Other Passengers continue their residency with special guest Saints & Lovers.
