Yesterday, police arrested two men in the death of chef Hwangbum Yang, the 26-year-old Bronx man who was fatally shot by a robber who was after his iPhone. A new horrifying detail has emerged: police were able to catch the suspects because they tried to sell the stolen phone on Craigslist—for $400.

The Return Of The Fake Craigslist Apartment Rental Scam
Twelve New Yorkers were left out in the cold in Queens this month after finding out they had all secured the same apartment on Craigslist—but actually hadn't secured it at all. Police are now looking for a man named Peter Kim (A.K.A. Michael Hong) who they say tricked the unlucky apartment hunters. Sadly this isn't the first time this kind of scam has gone down, and likely isn't the last either.
Last Minute Valentine's Day Gift: 500 Free Admission Cards To Hustler Club
Hey ladies, looking for that perfect gift for your man for Valentine's Day? Single men, want to lose yourself in a night of manufactured caresses? Head over to Craigslist where one poster has fallen into a treasure trove of free admittance cards to the Hustler Club in Manhattan. They claim the cards are "left over from an event," and have no expiration date. There are around 500, which means, if you see about five naked ladies upon each visit (is that accurate? We haven't been), you'll be seeing approximately 5,000 boobs once you work your way through the pile. Or something. Math! But you'll see a lot of naked lady parts. Just stay away from those private lap dances, they really add up.
Is Someone Stealing "Ghost Bike" Memorials And Selling Them On Craigslist?
A tipster spotted this "for sale" post (see below) on Craigslist, from someone claiming to have removed over two dozen white bikes that were locked up around town. The ad, which offers 30 of the bikes for $3,200, does not explicitly acknowledge that these bikes are memorials to cyclists killed in accidents. So it seems whoever posted it is pretending to be astonishingly oblivious—most of the memorials have a small plaque with the name of the biker who was killed, so it's hard to imagine anyone not understanding their purpose. On the other hand, the ad could be some sort of trolling fake Craigslist post meant to outrage the cyclist community. Either way, it's pretty despicable.
Man Offers $500 For Football Knowledge So Girlfriend Won't Dump Him
File under the is this really real? category: a man has posted a plea on Craigslist, offering $500 for someone ("preferably from someone who was a quarterback in college or the pros") to teach him about this whole football thing before The Big Game. And naturally it's because he doesn't want to be embarrassed in front of his lady friend (because women will break up with you if you don't love sports enough). He writes:
For Sale In NY: Jon Voight Sarah Michelle Gellar's Old Le Baron
If we're to believe this Craigslist posting (spotted by Pop Candy), then Sarah Michelle Gellar bought a new car right before embarking on her Buffy the Vampire Slayer journey in 1996. This '95 Chrysler Le Baron convertible is said to have been purchased by Gellar when it was new, and now the current owner is letting it go for just under $3,000. A Le Baron? This all sounds very familiar! They write:

Ohio Man, Teen Accused Of Using Craigslist Job Ads To Lure Men To Their Death
Southern Ohio authorities believe an ex-con who worked as a chaplain and ran a halfway house is behind a chilling plot using Craigslist to tempt unemployed men with a $300/week job watching a farm but killing them instead. Authorities learned of the scheme when police found one man shot in the arm and later found shallow graves. Brogan Rafferty, 16, has been been charged with the killings, but it's suspected his "mentor," Richard Beasley, orchestrated the crimes.
Babar The Elephant Found In Brooklyn!
Has anyone lost a well dressed, bilingual elephant in Brooklyn? Babar, yes that Babar, has been discovered in Bay Ridge, and his new human friends have posted this alert on Craigslist:
Last Chance To Visit Miranda July's SoHo Storefront Before It Disappears
Author, artist, actress, etc, Miranda July recently stepped into the retail business, opening a temporary shop in SoHo and selling items purchased on Craigslist—repackaged, and resold at the same price. The store is called It Chooses You, which is (surprise) also the name of her new book, but sadly, shop owners told us this afternoon, "the store will be up for a bit longer, but all of the items have sold and will most likely be moving out throughout the week and over the weekend."
Teen Found Guilty Of Fatally Stabbing Newsman After Craigslist Hookup
A teen who went through a mistrial last year for the murder of WABC Radio newsman George Weber was found guilty yesterday. John Katehis, now 18, was found guilty of second-degree murder for stabbing Weber upwards of 50 times in March 2009 inside Weber’s Carroll Gardens apartment after responding to his sex ad on Craigslist. And according to the Post, Katehis broke into "a wide grin" after the verdict was announced.

What Are Radiohead Fans Offering For Tickets?
Radiohead Roseland Scalpers Just Want $550, Priceless Heirlooms
Not everyone here at Gothamist HQ got lucky with tickets this morning—leaving the rest of us to troll Craigslist for a reasonably priced way in to one of their Roseland shows. HA. Let's all check our dignity at the door and delve into this dark corner of The Internet, which is best traveled to while in the "bargaining" stage.
BREAKING: Not All Internet Reviews Are Real
With more and more consumers needing to be told where to eat, what to buy, and the best place to be jailed, businesses see a legitimate reason to outsource illegitimate, positive reviews of their products and services. The stakes are high! One Craigslist ad asking jobseekers (AKA everyone) to "Write Yelp Reviews" is looking for people who "have an active Yelp account and would like to make very easy money." You mean, we can't trust everything we read on the internet?
Someone Is Recreating Mad Men... With Babies
Someone is up to something! There aren't a lot of details, but a Craigslist ad reads: "We're recreating important episodes of Mad Men using children ages 1-5." Smoking, drinking, affair-having babies. Actually, the poster clarifies, "The actors don't need to be able to talk, as we're dubbing over the dialogue, but they do need to be able to hold a cup (of apple juice, not scotch). Bonus if they have their own suits." Well, this will be adorable... as long as they don't recreate the lawn mower scene.
Alligator Roommate Craigslisting Was A "Croc"!
As we mentioned yesterday, the Craigslist posting regarding a Bronx Zoo zoologist and her alligator was a hoax, and now the person behind it has stepped forward for his/her prize: attention. The hoaxer wrote in to The Boken Online, saying:
UPDATE: Bronx Zoo Zoologist And Her Alligator Aren't Seeking Roommate
[UPDATE BELOW—turns out, it's not real]: A Bronx Zoo zoologist posted a Craiglist ad this morning, and it turns out you must love alligators if you want to move in to her Hoboken pad. While you'd only be sharing the apartment with one human, there is another roommate: A gator. A cayman from Zimbabwe named Keomba, who lives in a tank with about 24 inches of water.
The Plot Thickens In Tonic East Waitress Controversy
Yesterday, we heard the story of Marcy Richardson, a (now former) waitress at Tonic East who claimed three guys consumed $120 worth of beer and food and stiffed her on the check Tuesday night. She said she was subsequently forced to pay for the customers, and ended up writing an angry screed about the experience on Craigslist—you can read the whole account here. But a manager at Tonic refuted her story, and we ended up hearing two very opposing narratives about what happened that evening and who was to blame. Now to add to this Rashomon-like saga, the mother of a former waitress at Tonic also thinks the manager is lying!
What's Worse: Stiffing Your Waitress, Or Ranting On Craigslist?
We received a tip late today with a link to this Craigslist ad, with the title, "Dear 3 black guys I served at Tonic East tonight (Midtown East)." It was written by a now-former waitress (and trained opera singer!) from Tonic East Sportsbar on Third Avenue, who claims three guys consumed $120 worth of beer and food and then stiffed her on the check. She was forced to pay for the customers, and ended up writing this angry screed about the experience. You can read her full, no holds barred account of the incident below:
Fleet Week Is Here And Craigslist Is Ready
The sun is out, the skies are blue and New Yorkers of all types who like their partners in uniform are happily putting up proposals on Craigslist. Why? Because that annual invasion of our shores by strapping men and women in uniform, Fleet Week, is upon us!
Why Not Celebrate An Obscure Jewish Holiday By Cheating On Your Husband?
Well, this is certainly one way of picking up the ladies: this very specific Craigslist ad has been making the rounds in our office all afternoon—don't even ask how we originally found it. But there is something kind of...special about it. Especially the silhouette picture, and the killer pick-up line: "I am a heimisha hasidic yingerman, well mannered and educated, with a job. Who knows how to show you a good time!!"
Long Island Serial Killer May Be Current Or Former NYPD Officer
While the police continue to sort out the links between the remains found on Gilgo Beach, the Post reports that the NYPD is treating two of their own as possible suspects in the strangling deaths of four prostitutes. One resigned in the 90s after an investigation found that he "spent time pursuing hookers" and paid "down-and-out-women for sex while he was supposed to be on patrol," while the other continues police work, but was stripped of his badge and gun and relegated to desk duty after "he allegedly assaulted a prostitute and got arrested during a sting operation."
Fake Craigslist Ad For Fancy Wine Leaves CA Man Corked
"Bart," who was offering the deal of century ($3,200 a bottle) on Craigslist, seemed legit because the victim had bought pricey wine off the site a few weeks earlier from another seller without a hitch. But after arriving at the designated meeting place, he was "tied up and robbed of $40,100." A witness saw the man stagger from the building with "his head bleeding. He had no shoes or socks." No problem, you can find those on Craigslist.
Two Craigslist Prostitutes Attacked By Same John In Midtown Hotels
They say it's hard out there for a pimp, but it seems like its much harder for a prostitute these days: two Craigslist prostitutes were attacked and robbed by the same man in separate incidents in the past week. The attacks took place at the upscale Roosevelt and Wellington hotels; both victims fought their attacker, and one was slashed with a knife, while the other was put into a choke hold and left unconscious by the robber.
HBO ISO Hipsters For How To Make It In America
You've got to hand it to the casting directors at HBO—they sure do know how to target an audience. Behold this amazing gem of a Craigslist ad—"looking for featured Hipsters!" Latest LI Beach Bodies Could Be Old Joel Rifkin Victims
The hunt for the so-called Long Island Serial Killer is getting wet. After uncovering one-or-two more sets of human remains (they aren't sure about the latest set of remains) in Nassau County on Monday, authorities are taking their hunt to the high seas. Teams of four Suffolk marine bureau divers are expected today to start searching Hemlock Cove, between Oak and Gilgo beaches, for further victims (and possibly the still-missing prostitute Shannan Gilbert). Meanwhile the most recent set of bones may not be the work of the Gilgo Beach killer—some suspect they are actually connected to another Long Island serial killer, Joel Rifkin.
LI Serial Killer Could Be A Cop, New Body Could Be A Kid
The search for more victims of the purported Long Island Serial Killer moves into Nassau County and Jones Beach today. While investigators search for more unmarked graves, the media continues to dig into twists in the case (like: could the killer be a law enforcement official?). Over the weekend the Post, always happy to muckrake, went so far as to say that police have a suspect (which officials deny) and today Murdoch's paper keeps it up by reporting that one of the second-batch of bodies found doesn't appear to be that of a small-statured prostitute, like the first four bodies found, but instead could belong to a baby or child.
NYC's Worst Landlords Now Identified On Craigslist
A new feature in Craigslist lets apartment hunters steer clear of bad landlords. The new link, found at the top of the apartment listings, leads to a website created by Public Advocate Bill de Blasio's office. It currently lists more than 320 landlords and more than 400 buildings that have been cited for housing code violations. Currently number one on the list: one Lisa Dreshaj, who has racked up 2,047 infractions with her four buildings, including 656 class C violations, which are considered "immediately hazardous." You can also vote on ways to hold landlords more accountable on the site. Public dunking booths, anyone?
NH Man Accused Of Luring, Raping NYC Woman Via Craigslist
A New Hampshire man is accused of luring a NYC woman to his New England home via Craigslist, kidnapping her, and raping her for three days. Jeffrey Gray, a New Hampshire town official, had been on the lam for the last two weeks; he avoided police by checking himself into a veteran's hospital. He was caught yesterday by police, and charged with kidnapping, rape, false imprisonment and assault.
