The Central Perk Couch From Friends Is On The Auction Block

It's been eight years since the set went dark on Friends, but apparently people still care enough about the gang to spend absurd amounts of money on an old piece of furniture from the show. The couch that the cast often occupied at Central Perk coffee shop (because as young people living in New York they never went to bars) is up on the auction block this week in Los Angeles, where the show was actually filmed, and it's expected to take in around $6,000. It is, after all, where Rachel sat and cried right before Ross first kissed her. more ›

Stranger With Cookies

Stranger With Cookies

Who doesn't want free cookies from a complete stranger on an inflatable couch? If the idea doesn't freak you out, then bookmark this Twitter feed, where one seemingly good-intentioned fella updates his whereabouts. Why would you want to know where he is? Because he's going to give you a free homemade vegan cookie! He tells us, "I have been going out a couple times a week, inflating a green couch, giving out FREE COOKIES, and making friends. I'll be out today in Union Square around 4:00-6:00 p.m." If you miss him, you know where to find him next. His name is Scott Alexander, and according to this website, he's got a wife at home, is "a doorman by day and a musician by night." Another blogger recently encountered the cookie man, saying, "everyone knows chocolate chip cookies are a sure way to open hearts-even if they’re vegan. (These really were the best vegan treats I’ve had)." Sounds good to us, even if it is, what he calls, "a reverse promotional experiment" to spread his music. more ›

Boa Constrictor Invades Brooklyn Home, Hides in Couch

Two seven year old boys were coloring on the couch yesterday when a four foot boa constrictor peeked its head out from one of the couch cushions. "I felt something on my back," one of the boys, Jay Jhomar, tells the Post. "I was excited. At first I thought I found a toy in the couch... It was staring and waiting for someone to eat. I was a little scared, and we were screaming." Jay's mother Danielle summoned the police to her Bensonhurst home, and the snake was subsequently taken away by Animal Care and Control. It's believed to be an escaped pet, but the Post says boas are illegal to own in NYC and it will likely end up in an animal sanctuary. (Jay's futilely lobbying to keep it.) Danielle suspects the boa slithered in through an open window to try and get warm, but the Daily News has a more sinister theory: "The best guess is that the snake slithered into the first-floor apartment by way of a toilet." Aaaand we'll be refusing liquids and food until we can somehow forget about that image. more ›
