Department of Correction officer Victor Hernandez was shot by cops in the Bronx yesterday after he refused to lower his weapon outside of a Bronx club. Hernandez, 35, was thrown out of Club Legend on 161st Street early Saturday morning after allegedly making a pass at another man's girlfriend, and pedestrians called 911 after seeing him stumbling down the block with his gun at his side. Plainclothes cops arrived and ordered Hernandez to drop his weapon. Hernandez raised his gun, and police fired 20 shots at him. They hit him in the arm once. more ›

On Rikers Island, an openly gay female guard says she was sexually assaulted while on the job—but not by inmates, by one of her fellow corrections officers. The News reports how Andrea Thompson crossed paths with a group of drunken peers, including Officer Sean Hall, in the mess hall on New Year's Day. "I am going to get you to wear dresses, high heels and let your hair down," he said, according to a statement by Thompson. Then he lunged at her, pinning her against a refrigerator. more ›

A Corrections Department spokesman says that during Saturday's Rikers Island uprising prison guards applied "defense holds and used defense spray" to get brawling inmates back in line. Thirteen corrections officers and three inmates were inured in the conflict that began around 11 p.m., jailhouse bedtime. "A few inmates were encouraging others not to lock in," the spokesman Stephen Morello told the Post. Apparently they were also angered that earlier in the day, their cells had been searched. more ›

Andrew Reister, a Long Island corrections officer who worked a second job as a Southampton Bouncer, died yesterday after he had been choked out by a customer earlier in the week. Reister was allegedly choked out for over a minute by Anthony Oddone (pictured) after the two got into a scuffle after Reister told him to stop dancing on a table. Oddone, a college golfer and country-club caddie, has been charged with first degree assault for the time being. "How ironic it's another golfer who took him out," the victim's wife Stacy Reister lamented. Oddone will appear in court on Tuesday. more ›

An off-duty corrections officer was reportedly shot four times in what WABC 7 calls "an apparent gunfight with several men." The officer had been walking home around 1:45 a.m. and the shooting occurred at 1791 Walton, at East 175th Street. more ›
