Will We Ever Find The City's Best Burger?

Will We Ever Find The City's Best Burger?

Finding the "city's best" of anything is a daunting task, requiring months or years of scouring every diner, deli and overpriced restaurant many times over. In just the past two years news outlets have named Peter Luger, Burger Joint, Best Burger and Shakes, and Bagatelle as having the best, and now the Daily News is getting in on the action for 2011. They recently named West Village standby Corner Bistro's burger the best in the city, which they call the "kind of fresh off-the-grill burger that reminds you of backyard BBQs." What, no Kobe? more ›

Corner Bistro "Victim" and Owner Respond, Confusion Abounds

A Side of Gay Bashing with Your Corner Bistro Burger?

A Side of Gay Bashing with Your Corner Bistro Burger?

Corner Bistro, the self-described "last of the bohemian bars in West Greenwich Village," and a popular last stop for late night snacks, may have just become a little less appetizing. BlackBook published a first hand account today by Nick Haramis, who recently went to the establishment for a midnight meal with his boyfriend and some other friends. Shortly after sitting down, a waiter or busboy allegedly threw Haramis to the floor: "The side of my head the last thing to hit the ground. There was some confusion as my boyfriend tried to stop the whole thing, and was then punched in the face, while the Bistro worker screamed 'faggots' a few times, for good measure." more ›

The First Course: Stone Park Cafe

The First Course: Stone Park Cafe

Where can you find the best burger in the city? It's a perpetual debate. Do you go low or high? Burger Joint, Corner Bistro, Prime Burger? Or is it the $29 foie gras and short rib burger at db Bistro Moderne? Gothamist has tried them all. We haven’t picked a winner yet (the search is half the fun, after all). But we do have a new contender. You'll have to go to Park Slope to get it, but the burger at Stone Park Cafe is worth the trip. more ›

Sam Champion in...

Sam Champion in...

Sam Champion is New York's musical anachronism. While most rock bands either bow down to Max's Kansas City circa 1975 or the UK in the post-punk wave of the early '80s, the finest band ever named after a local weatherman is all too happy to take its cues from the '90s. The slack trappings of Pavement are channeled through the ghost of Credence Clearwater Revival and the loping, folksy rumbles of Neil Young and Crazy Horse. Remember when lyrics were clever, the shirts were untucked, the hair a post-collegiate mess and emo hadn't brought feelings and vulnerability to indie rock? (Except for Lou Barlow, of course.) Ah, what an era. more ›

Dining by Candlelight, Either by Accident or on Purpose

The New York Times reports that many restaurants will be having blackout anniversary parties:

That night, Mr. Bashy, chef and owner of the Minnow in Park Slope, sold 67 meals - for a Thursday, he said, slightly higher than normal - in a dining room that seats 40. more ›

Murder They Ate

Murder They Ate

In one area of the Bronx, there is the Murder Burger at the First Way Deli. The Times Alan Feuer investigates the meaning behind the name of this intimidating burger: "Half a pound of ground beef mixed with bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce, adobo spice mix, milk, eggs and a dash of Accent seasoning cooked to succulence atop the skillet and served on a kaiser roll with onions, relish and secret sauce." Possibilities for the name: more ›
