Luis "Baby" Ortiz, who is accused of shooting NYPD officer Kevin Brennan in the head Tuesday night at the Bushwick Houses, showed no remorse as he was escorted out of the 90th Precinct station house yesterday afternoon. "Yeah, take a picture of me," Ortiz, 21, told photographers during the perp walk as he smiled, blew kisses to family and friends, and mugged for the cameras. In Spanish, he yelled "I love the Latin Kings," adding, "You know what it is," according to the Daily News. His angry supporters also showed little remorse. more ›

At a press conference late last night, NYPD commissioner Ray Kelly held aloft the bullet that struck Officer Kevin Brennan, 29, a six-year veteran of the NYPD, in Bushwick last night. "He’s one lucky young man," Kelly told reporters, holding a jar containing the bloody bullet that doctors removed from Brennan's skull. "It's a miracle. He's very, very lucky." Though the officer in question has not been identified, we now know that the 43-year-old detective, a fifteen-year member of the force, had celebrated his son's first birthday before the incident. An unidentified MTA cop was putting her gun back in the locker when she accidentally pulled the trigger and shot another officer in the stomach yesterday. According to the Post, the incident happened around 3 p.m. inside an administrative building near the RFK Bridge. Around 8 p.m. last night, plainclothes cops pulled over a teenager for riding his bike on the sidewalk in East New York. When Elijah Foster-Bay, 17, realized he was being stopped by police, "he immediately threw down the bike and ran," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told reporters at a press conference at Kings County Hospital last night. Police Officer Richard Ramirez, 29, and two other officers gave chase, finally cornering Foster-Bay when he ran into a building at 454 Bradford Street. Black leaders expressed frustration yesterday after a grand jury voted not to indict Officer Andrew Dunton in the fatal "friendly fire" shooting of fellow Officer Omar Edwards one rainy night in Harlem at the end of May. Cops Injured in Queens Subway Station Shooting

Two police officers were injured in a confrontation with an armed suspect at the 21st Street and 41st Avenue subway station in Queensbridge around 5:00 p.m. WCBS 2 reports one cop was shot in the abdomen (his condition is critical; he is undergoing surgery) and the other was grazed by a bullet (he is stbale). the suspect was also shot in the leg. The F is currently bypassing the station and cops have flooded the area; according to the Daily News, "Swarms of cops were searching neighboring housing projects and canvassing stores in the area, though it was not immediately clear if they were hunting for additional suspects." Update: Reports now say that the suspect reached for one of the two plainclothes transit officers' guns after they approached him for illegally using a discount Metrocard and fired at the cops. more ›
