Two years ago, the eagle eyes at the NY Post spied some World Trade Center workers enjoying some alcoholic beverages during their lunch breaks, and broke the shocking news that construction workers sometimes drink on the job. And today, to their utter disbelief, the Post reports that WTC hardhats are still boozing at lunchtime at the same spots they did two years ago.
WTC Construction Workers Are Still Boozing At Lunch
Flatiron "Gunman": I Waved A Finger, Not Gun, At Noisy Construction Workers!
The 69-year-old man who brought the Flatiron District to a standstill with a mistaken hostage crisis on Wednesday was released from court yesterday without bail. Kenneth Clarfield was arrested after cops kicked his door down at the end of a three hour standoff that was sparked, according to Clarfied, when he yelled and wagged his finger at construction workers on a scaffold outside his 11th floor apartment. Greeting reporters outside Manhattan Criminal Court, Clarfield wagged his tongue and told reporters, "You want a picture of me? Here's your f---ing picture!"
Caught on Tape: Boozy Construction Workers
Hot on the heels of their undercover work at the city's trendy nightclubs, Inside Edition heads to a much less glamorous scene: the construction site.
Female Hardhat Sues For $20 Million Over Sexual Harassment
Yesterday, a construction safety coordinator filed a $20 million lawsuit, accusing her employer of ignoring reports of sexual harassment while working at a Park Avenue JPMorgan Chase building site. Bianca Wisniewski, a 43-year-old widowed mother of two, says she repeatedly fended off lewd advances from elevator operator Steve Greco in 2007. According to the suit, Greco's overtures included grabbing her around the waist and cooing, "I just want to take you to dinner, no fu*king," and "Everybody kisses engineer Steve. This is a man's world, not a place for women to work." The suit accuses LIC's Total Safety Consulting of ignoring her complaints, offering her job back but then rescinding the offer and replacing her with a man. Her lawyer says, "What I find atrocious is that here's a woman who was working in a job where we have... crane accidents and people dying, and she was in a position of authority to ensure safety. But when she reports a guy vilely hitting on her, instead of protecting her safety, they protect a scoundrel." None of the defendants in the lawsuit—JPMorgan Chase, Total Safety, Greco, and his union—have formally commented, but Greco told a Daily News reporter yesterday, "I don't know [Wisniewski]. I don't know what you're talking about."
Some WTC Construction Workers Enjoy Liquid Lunches
The Post has an article looking at the lunchtime habits of some World Trade Center construction workers—specifically the liquid preferences the workers have: "Dozens of workers belly up to the bar at gin mills on Murray Street -- two blocks from the sacred soil of Ground Zero and America's most scrutinized construction project -- shortly before noon every day." At one bar, "three pals plus a fourth worker gulped three beers and two shots of whiskey each during the lunch hour, when the bar was packed with construction workers...openly discuss[ing] their drinking, their Ground Zero work -- and DWI arrests."
