New York Comic Con, the annual gathering of hobbits, Han Solos and She-Hulks, strolled into the Javits Center with costumes galore this weekend—and it's by no means not just for nerds and geeks. Photographer Jim Kiernan was there to document some of the crazy costumes, and you can view all his photos from the event here. Above, click through to check out some highlights, including Lord Dark Helmet, Wonder Woman and Emma Frost. more ›

A Brief Guide To New York's Comic Con

The New York Comic Con might not be as well-known as the annual blowout in San Diego (which it's not affiliated with), but for nerds and nerd-lovers, it's still a worthwhile trip. This year's fest is taking over the Javits Center from October 13th to 16th with three days worth of comic-related panels, screenings and parties. This list is by no means definitive, but we've rounded up a few of the top picks for you to peruse—and don't forget to buy tickets in advance! more ›

As New York Comic Con wrapped up yesterday and everyone rallied to find the last minute discounts and giveaways (we snagged a copy of this Flash issue in which he gets beaten up by hippies!), our readers were out taking even more photos of great costumes and scenes. So here are some more! Next year's event will take place from October 14th to 16th, so you may want to start planning your costumes now, as that Robocop is going to be a tough one to beat. more ›

Since work and school were out yesterday, day two of New York Comic Con was filled with even more costumes, and a few celebrities. NY Comic Con Not Just For Nerds

When most people think of a comics convention, they think of nerds. Despite San Diego's Comic Con rising to the status of media event of the year, the event will never get away from its roots in Princess Leia costumes and fanboys waiting for hours to get an autograph from Stan Lee. But over the years, the comics convention has become a more sophisticated event, attracting attendees from every corner of nerddom. It was no different at New York's Comic Con at the Javits Center yesterday, where Wookies and Captain Americas mingled with book publishers and illustrators. more ›

The hungry Watchmen fans got to see a never-before-seen 30 second clip of the very anticipated film (more details here). Triumph the Insult Comic Dog at Comic-Con

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog never seems to run out of material when it comes to making fun of nerds. Ever since Conan O'Brien and (the man beneath Triumph) Robert Smigel let him loose on the Star Wars fans lined up for the premiere of Attack of the Clones in 2002, sci-fi and comic book fans have been a regular target for Triumph. Last night, Conan showed Triumph's latest trail of terror throughout last weekend's Comic-Con in San Diego. In the video, Triumph himself is astounded at some point that he hasn't run out of fat jokes. Yet no matter how many comic book nerds he goes after for being fat, chronic masturbating virgins, the shtick never seems to get old. more ›

When the NYPD Meets the Galactic Empire

When the NYPD Meets the Galactic Empire

A long time ago (last week), in a galaxy far far away (the far West Side), this photograph was taken outside of the Javits Convention Center, where the New York Comic Con was held. It's unclear if the police were making sure the light sabers at 34th Street and 8th Avenue remained safe, but the Storm Trooper getup seems very similar to what Operation Torch cops need! more ›

We may have to wait until next April for Comic Con in New York, but there's plenty of comic goodness over at the Puck Building this weekend at the MoCCA Art Festival.
