Knicks Fans, Get Ready: Isiah Thomas Fired By Florida International

Maybe the Mayans were right about 2012: Isiah Thomas was fired by Florida International University as coach of their men's basketball team today. If Knicks Fans Beg, Will Phil Jackson Come?

If Knicks Fans Beg, Will Phil Jackson Come?

Mike D'Antoni is gone, Carmelo Anthony isn't going anywhere, and all that's left of Linsanity is cable-provider lawsuits. Knicks fans and basketball experts would be lying if they told you they had any idea how the rest of this shortened, bipolar season might go—but owner James Dolan has already made it clear that the Knicks will finish the season with Mike Woodson as head coach. Maybe Knicks fans can handle that, but there's only one zen master they're clamoring to see try to make something of Amare Stoudemire's bad knees and Steve Novak's wild threes: Phil Jackson. But is there any chance he'd actually join the MSG circus? more ›

Pedophile Little League Coach Had A History In Politics

David Harshorn, the 52-year-old Queens Little League coach charged with molesting three of his charges, doesn't just have a history of pursuing sex with minors. He also has a history as a campaign manager who uses minors for grunt work! Harshorn managed Alan Gerson's failed 2009 City Council bid and worked on Joe Fox's failed shot at unseating Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi. In both cases he used kids to hand out literature and it is unclear if a background check was performed in either case. Meanwhile, the Little League has begun its own investigation into how he got his coaching gig. more ›

But when David Hartshorn, 52, was brought in for arraignment he reportedly collapsed! He didn't go unconscious, and was revived just in time to be held without bail. For those keeping score, Hartshorn was busted in 1989 for offenses including sodomy and promoting sexual performance with a child under 16. Must not have put that on his resume. more ›

Coach's Bad Pitch Turns Student Off Baseball Forever

Christopher Mallette of Brooklyn's Bishop Ford High School has filed a lawsuit against assistant coach Dharyl Russell, claiming he intentionally hit him in the face with a baseball, which caused him to need reconstructive surgery. Mallette had reportedly asked his coach to slow his pitches during practice, but the coach beaned him in the face and allegedly told him to "suck it up" and go home. Mallette said, “It can’t be a freak accident." However, both the Post and CBS 2 say the most heartbreaking thing is that Mallette most likely won't be picking up the sport again. more ›

Video: Giants Coach Suddenly Grows A Personality

The Giants 2010 season moved along like a sine curve, so despite ending with ten wins, the team missed the playoffs because of their own inconsistent play (especially Eli Manning, and his 25 interceptions). Coach Tom Coughlin, who is no Rex Ryan, received a lot of flack by the media and fans for the disappointment. But the Giants decided to retain Coughlin and his fiery personality, and Coughlin let critics of the team and himself know exactly how he feels: "Kiss my ass." more ›

Donnie Baseball To Replace Torre As Dodgers Manager

Joe Torre announced today that he was retiring as manager of the struggling LA Dodgers. The team immediately named former Yankee and current hitting coach Don Mattingly as his replacement. Torre has managed the Dodgers since the 2008 season, and coached the Yankees to four World Series titles in 12 years as their head coach. Torre turned 70 in July and has a 2,318-1,990 regular-season record in 29 major league seasons as a manager. Mattingly was the bench coach with the Yankees in 2007, and hoped to replace Torre as manager, but lost out to Joe Girardi; instead, he followed Torre to LA, as his heir apparent. It's unclear currently whether Torre is retiring from managing entirely or not. more ›

Oscar Bravo, a former stockroom clerk at the Madison Avenue store, also claims upper management ignored his repeated complaints about supervisor Brandon Williams. Bravo says the annoying behavior included come-ons from Williams to look at his "weiner" on days he brought his pet dachsund to work. "He would say, 'Ok, I have a big weiner, you wanna come see my weiner?'," Oscar Bravo tells the Daily News. "I would say, 'Get the hell out of here, nobody wants to see that.'" more ›

Cowher Not Interested in Jets Job

After changing reports about whether he'd speak to the Jets, former Steelers coach Bill Cowher told Gang Green no thanks. The team issued a statement at 11 p.m. last night, "After reaching out to coach Cowher's representatives, we were informed that he is not a candidate for the position." A source tells Newsday's Bob Glauber talks "never advanced to the point of scheduling a formal interview. Material items such as [front-office] structure, money and length of contract were never discussed." The spotlight is now on the Giants' defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo (Glauber calls him "brilliant") and the Daily News reports he "will interview Saturday for the job."
