Last Night's Action: Home Doesn't Do It

Last Night's Action: Home Doesn't Do It

  • Clippers 103 Knicks 94: New York Giants Sam Madison, Kevin Dockery and R.W. McQuarters showed up for the game, which provided a great diversion from what happened on the floor. Leading 60-51 at halftime, the Knicks were blown away in the third quarter, getting outscored 28-14 as the Clippers cruised to the win. more ›

Last Night's Action: Not Happy With a Point

Last Night's Action: Not Happy With a Point

  • Clippers 120, Nets 107 (OT): That five-game winning streak seems like ages ago. Too bad the NBA doesn't give out half a win for reaching overtime. Offense wasn't the problem for the Nets. As Josh Boone -- he of 17 points, 16 rebounds and 3-of-4 free throw shooting -- said, the Clippers just played better defense in the bonus session.

Last Night's Action: No Offense In New Jersey

Last Night's Action: No Offense In New Jersey

Clippers 91 Nets 82: The Nets simply couldn’t shoot Tuesday night, finishing a dismal 32% from the field in an ugly loss to the Clippers at the Izod Center. Jason Kidd managed a triple-double and Richard Jefferson had 21 points, but it wasn’t enough to stop LA. Chris Kaman and Tim Thomas each had 18 points while Dan “the Knicks cut me this offseason” Dickau added 11 points off the bench. Carl Pavano isn’t sure... more ›

Isiah is Blowing It Up with the Knicks

Isiah is Blowing It Up with the Knicks

All is well in Knicks camp. They're playing well on the court, fans love them, MSG is packed, all their players are completely sane, and their coach/GM is the talk of the town. Actually, that's how things are in Knicks-fantasy land. Back here on planet earth, the Knicks are a dismal 2-7, sitting at the bottom of the Atlantic Division, their star point guard is coming off the bench, and their coach/GM is throwing his... more ›

Stephon Marbury Loves 'The Big Onion'

Stephon Marbury Loves 'The Big Onion'

NYC & Co better update their marketing materials, because New York City has a new name...The Big Onion. At least that's what Stephon Marbury is calling New York these days. While professing his love of yesterday's NY Post cover (we can't argue with him), Marbury e-mailed The Post, "I must say the front page of The Post has to be the funniest thing I have ever seen in a long time. I'm sitting on... more ›

Last Night's Action: Waiting for 500

Last Night's Action: Waiting for 500

Rangers 4, Devils 2: Given New Jersey's recent dominance over its cross-river rivals, Martin Brodeur's picking up his 500th win against Rangers would have seemed appropriate. Jaromir Jagr and Henrik Lunqvist had other ideas. Lundqvist stopped 22 shots and Jagr added a goal and an assist as the Rangers on the Prudential Center ice. Even defenseman Marc Staal got into the act. Jamie Langenbrunner had two goals for the home team, whose fans eagerly booed... more ›

Marbury's Willing To Dish, But Only About Isiah

Marbury's Willing To Dish, But Only About Isiah

"O Stephon, Stephon, wherefore art thou Stephon?" Those are the words that Isiah Thomas might be saying. At least if what one media outlet is reporting is true. Not because the Knicks seem like they their star point guard after last night, or because Stephon Marbury is AWOL, but because the Knicks star point guard may have the dish on his head coach. While on the flight to Phoenix, Marbury learned that he wasn't going... more ›

Last Night's Action: Guess Who Lost?

Last Night's Action: Guess Who Lost?

The Mardy Collins era lasted approximately six minutes. Pushed into the starting lineup in place of Stephon Marbury, Collins sprained his foot halfway through the first quarter. And, Collins’ injury was just the beginning as Phoenix trounced the Knicks 113-102 while shooting 56% from the field. To make matters worse, Renaldo Balkman went down with an injury later in the game and had to be helped off the court. With Quentin Richardson out with an... more ›

A Taste of ... Clippers Cuisine

A Taste of ... Clippers Cuisine

Clippers Cuisine in Lefrak City has all the things one associates with a great Jamaican restaurant: killer oxtail, patties and coco bread, such traditional breakfasts as ackee and salt cod and the requisite easygoing dancehall reggae soundtrack. It also has one another claim to fame. The menu cites it as Naomi Campbell's favorite Jamaican restaurant. At first we were skeptical about that claim, but a quick check of W Magazine proved its veracity. The other interesting thing about Clippers' menu is a dish called Rasta Pasta. With a name like that, we simply couldn't resist ordering it. Much to our disappointment, Clippers was out of it the day we visited, but we did learn from the gal behind the counter that this vegetarian dish has "very special sauce." more ›

Last Night's Action: The Locals Win!

Last Night's Action: The Locals Win!

So, do you rejoice in the win, or do you worry about the fact that Eddy Curry pulled another disappearing act? Curry has become the on-court leader and for the Knicks to get to the playoffs, they will need him to step up. more ›

Snow, Maybe Ice, On Tap for Tonight

Snow, Maybe Ice, On Tap for Tonight

A huge winter storm, another in a series of late-winter Alberta Clippers, that's dumped more than a foot of heavy, wet snow on the Midwest is headed our way tonight. We won't get a foot of snow here, but it is likely we'll have a bad case of Valentine's Day storm deja vu. more ›

Last Night's Action: Another Nets Heartbreaker

Last Night's Action: Another Nets Heartbreaker

Unfortunately for the Nets, their tread-water strategy while waiting for injured players to return won't work too well against most teams in the West. A team like the Clippers -- now .500 at 21-21 -- would probably look much better in the Eastern Conference. New Jersery has two more games on this trip, and 0-5 is a possibility, even if the last two matchups don't rip the Nets' hearts out like Thursday's did. more ›

Last Night's Action: Knicks Won't Leave West Empty-Handed

Last Night's Action: Knicks Won't Leave West Empty-Handed

    • Knicks 99, Blazers 81: When the Knicks win, they can usually thank Eddy Curry. The big man took congratulations again for leading the Knicks to a victory in Portland, their first on this five-game West Coast swing. After seeing his team drop games to the Suns, Clippers and Kings, Curry helped his team stop the bleeding by dumping 27. Jamal Crawford -- who, behind Curry, might be the most consistent Knick -- had 25. Knicks fans should also be happy to see that David Lee logged one more minute than Jared Jeffries, even in a blowout. Lee has outperformed Jeffries in every way possible since the higher-paid player came back from his wrist injury. But the Knicks would be a better team if Coach Isiah Thomas weren't so stubborn and let Lee's merits outweigh Jeffries' income.

    Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse

The weeks starts out right when a sucker punch on the field lands Chicagoist in the middle of a Sox/Cubs throwdown and the fists continue to fly in the comments. Musical Chairs

    Musical Chairs

At least the Knicks are making progress. Normally a 84-79 loss to the Clippers like the Knicks suffered Wednesday wouldn't be cause for celebration. This loss isn't either, but at least Gothamist saw some signs of life in the Knicks. Of course, everything is relative for a team that is 6-12. more ›

What Can Brown Do For You?

What Can Brown Do For You?

This afternoon, the Knicks will announce the hiring of NBA vagabond Larry Brown as the new coach of the Knicks. The contract pays Brown around $10 million per season. Brown is 64 and is already a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame. He has coached teams to both an NCAA title and an NBA championship, and is widely regarded (along with Phil Jackson) as the NBA's top coach. more ›

    Why Not The Nets?

    Coolfer's Thankgiving Weekend Music Picks

    Coolfer's Thankgiving Weekend Music Picks

As is usually the case, the local concert schedule around Thanksgiving is a tad thin. Look at it this way: If you go out, you'll have a little extra elbow room. Or, look at it this way: If you go out, you may be seeing bands that are playing to half-empty rooms, and nobody likes to play to half-empty rooms. more ›

    More Moves From Isiah

Further proof that it is the Warriors, and not the Clippers, that are the NBA's most hapless franchise. Golden State has agreed in principle to deal prized free agent center Erick Dampier to the Knicks for back ups Nazr Mohammed and Othella Harrington. more ›
