MUSIC: When we talked to Jonny Greenwood (pictured) back in October, Radiohead's In Rainbows wasn't the only focus. His composition titled Popcorn Superhet Receiver will be performed tonight by The Wordless Music Orchestra with Brad Lubman as conductor. When we asked Greenwood if he would be in attendance, he said "I’d love to but I can’t really justify the flight just to come to that. I’d feel a bit weird about it. If I was in America already for touring or something I’d love to go but I can’t really justify it. It’s a shame." Since you won't be using as many carbon emissions to get there, we suggest you go.

It's been five years since Jam Master Jay (Jason Mizell) was murdered in his Queens studio, and though some people have recently started piping up about who may have pulled the trigger - no suspect has been named. Moving forward -- his friends, family and fellow musicians have begun to get closure in other ways. Mizell's widow, Terri, started the Jam Master Jay Foundation for Music -- a non-profit that provides funding and resources to...
-Mets 6, Nationals 2: From the Mets' persepctive, the only notable part of this game was Cliff Floyd's return to the lineup. Bothered by a left achilles tendon injury, Floyd hit leadoff to get extra plate appearances. He'll know Monday if he'll play in Game 1 of the playoffs on Wednesday, but the Mets know they'll welcome the Dodgers, the wild card winner. San Diego's win clinched them the NL West; they'll play the Cardinals.
- Sunday evening at McCarren Park is the finals for Brooklyn Kickball. Not only will the winners of Sunday's game get to take home the Chuck D trophy, they will also be able to say they have the best hipster kickball team in all of New York City. The final four are: Tigers, Burninators (the defending champs), John Cougar Mellencamps (they wear cut off jeans), and NYC Fun Club. Semi-final games are at 7 and 8 p.m. with the winner from each playing in the final at 9. Because adults playing kickball in fabulous outfits isn't entertaining enough, music will be provided by the Williamsburg Greenpoint Orchestra.

As Steven Van Zandt was organizing the Save CBGB's concert in Washington Square Park yesterday afternoon, the CBGB's landlord, the Bowery Residents' Committee, announced they hoped "CBGB's will vacate the premises." However, CBGB's owner Hilly Kristal said, "We're going to fight. We deserve to be here. If they padlock the club, we're going to cut the locks." Little Stevie added that if there are court proceedings, supporters would be there with, too, making Gothamist wonder how that fight will play out in the press: Rock fans versus the homeless.

If you're not busy either attending or protesting the RNC, there are more than a few things going on before the end of the work week. Tonight and tomorrow are particularly busy. The weekend isn't too bad, either, but things tend to calm down around a holiday.
In NY, the network airs on WLIB 1190AM (LA: KBLA 180AM; Chicago: WNTD 950AM). The Washington Post's Howard Kurtz looked at Air America a few weeks ago. Jeff Jarvis has been listening and says, "." Well, the station probably doesn't want to be confused with Air America, the airplane pilot "comedy" with Mel Gibson and Robert Downey Jr.
Even though its release is months away, Gothamist is excited for Will Ferrell's next movie, Anchorman. Watch the "trailer" (really early clips from Dreamworks) and see Ferrell play a pompous, chauvinistic anchorman from the 70s. He battles with a lady reporter played by Christina Applegate, and has a crack Action News team that includes Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd. The rest of the cast is pretty star-studded - Vince Vaughn, Fred Willard, Chuck D., Tim Robbins. Can't wait until July 9, 2004. In the mean time, our favorite favorite favorite 70s new anchorman, Ted Baxter, will have to do.
