Hollywood Brings Greek Gods To Modern Day NYC

Hollywood Brings Greek Gods To Modern Day NYC

What would happen if Greek gods were living in a brownstone in modern day NYC? Hollywood will tell us in a new movie called Gods Behaving Badly, starring Christopher Walken as Zeus. The film adaptation of the best-selling British novel will bring all of the ancient Greek deities together under one brownstone roof, all stripped of their powers and joining the workforce. more ›

Christopher Walken's Mustachioed Lookalike Is Mentally Ill

Christopher Walken's Mustachioed Lookalike Is Mentally Ill

In The Mirror Universe in Star Trek lore, everyone has a bizarro version of themselves, readily identifiable by their sexier clothes or sketchy facial hair. It seems that we've found our bizzaro Christopher Walken: NJ resident Tony Kadyhrob, whose picture has become an internet sensation this week, and whose awkward mustache seems to be the only way to tell the two apart. If Walken wasn't already freaked out by the internet, he certainly would be now! more ›

THEATER: Playwright Tina Howe delivers the first play of Atlantic Theater’s fall season: “Birth and After Birth”. Though originally conceived in 1972, the comedy has yet to break water in New York City. It details the clash between Sandy and Bill, who were up all night preparing a birthday party for their four year-old son, and their guests Jeffrey and Mia, childless anthropologists who study primitive children in remote cultures. Be sure to capitalize on the theater’s laudable “Play for the Price of a Movie" initiative: 29 seats at every performance are available for $10 each and may be reserved in advance by calling (646) 216-1119 or bought at the box office (336 W. 20th Street) two hours prior to curtain. If these tickets are sold out, regular price tickets may be purchased at TeleCharge. - John Del Signore more ›

Project Runway 3: Dog Days!

Project Runway 3: Dog Days!

- We're not sure if this has been noticed by anyone else, but as we've been watching repeats of last week's episode, we realized that Vincent talks exactly like Christopher Walken. In other words, Christopher Walken would play him in the SNL skit about the show - they have EXACTLY the same cadences. more ›

Brooklyn 1, NJ 0

Some New Jerseyans say, "Feh" and tell the Times, "It's going to cut down on some of this traffic, that's what it's going to do." Ah, the philosophy of people from half of Gothamist's native land. New Jersey, though, is trying to fight to keep the "Nets" name, in the hopes NJ will be able to get another team to use it. As if the "Nets" is that great to begin with and as if the NBA isn't overexpanded already. NJ Sports and Entertainment Authority George Zoffinger says, "Ratner should name the team after himself. I think the Brooklyn Rats has a nice ring to it." When the Times asked some Brooklynites what the nickname should be, one suggested, "Iconoclasts." more ›

Spike Jonze At Resfest

Spike Jonze At Resfest

The distinctive, inventive, [insert overused but highly appropriate adjective here] flair of skateboard-magazine-editor-turned-music-video-director-turned-Hollywood's-new-guard Spike Jonze will be on display this year at Resfest. When it rolls into town on October 11, there will be a program called Spike Jonze Rarities, including a number of unseen videos and short films, including 1995's "The Oasis Video that Never Happened" and a Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice" video with audio commentary from Christopher Walken. Jonze, along with Michel Gondry and Chris Cunningham, are at the fore of more visually engaging and cutting-edge videos; a DVD of Jonze's work will be released on October 28. more ›

The (Orange) BAFTA AwardThe British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards, the Orange BAFTA Awards, were handed out yesterday and the big winner was The Pianist, Best Picture and Best Director Roman Polanski. Other winners included Daniel Day-Lewis for Gangs of New York, Nicole Kidman for The Hours, Catherine Zeta-Jones for Chicago, Christopher Walken for Catch Me If You Can (I wonder what he'd rather have done - been in London to pick up his award or in NY hosting SNL as he was last night), Charlie and Donald Kaufman's adapted screenplay for Adaptation, and Pedro Almodovar's original screenplay for Talk to Her. What's funny about British awards these days is that they have corporate sponsors - Orange is a mobile phone communications company. The Booker Prize is now the Man Booker Prize, Man is an investment company. The Mercury Prize, the most prestigious music award in the UK and arguably the US, too (though the US created the Shortlist award), is the Panasonic Mercury prize. more ›
