Bloomberg, Bipartisanship, Cheesecake, and 2008

Bloomberg, Bipartisanship, Cheesecake, and 2008

Today, we come together with hope and determination, with a determination to stop politics as usual which seeks to divide us for political gain. We come together to resurrect that kind of bipartisan statesmanship that united us as Americans to win the Cold War. We come together to appeal to all presidential candidates to tell us how they plan to bring us together. Hear our plea! Bring us together! Bring us together! Bring us together and the American people will assure our future. We also have the joint statement from the participants (including former elected officials such as Bill Cohen and Christie Todd Whitman as well as current senator Chuck "Often mentioned as a running mate for Bloomberg" Hagel) after the jump. more ›

Will Bloomberg Third-Party On?

Will Bloomberg Third-Party On?

2007_12_bloomb.jpgYesterday, the Washington Post reported that Mayor Bloomberg would be meeting with other Republicans and Democrats to "consider the merits of a third-party bid for the White House." Which means that today, not only do we get a NY Post cover, we also get a NY Post Photoshop illustration of Bloomberg, Gary Hart and Christie Todd Whitman (two other meeting attendees) as Revolutionary musicians! more ›

Whitman Insists She Did Not Lie About 9/11 Air

Whitman Insists She Did Not Lie About 9/11 Air

Former head of the Environmental Protection Agency (and former NJ Governor) Christie Todd Whitman testified in front of Congress yesterday about the EPA's September 11 response. With critics like Representatives Jerrold Nadler and Anthony Weiner of New York and Representative Bill Pascrell of NJ questioning her, Whitman called statements made about her leadership "misinformation, innuendo and downright falsehoods." more ›

Christie Todd Whitman Questioned Over WTC Dust

Christie Todd Whitman Questioned Over WTC Dust

There's nothing like testifying in front of Congress as the Daily News puts you on the front cover and asks you to "come clean" about the post-WTC collapse toxic air in an editorial. Today, Christie Todd Whitman appeared before a Democratic-controlled Congress; the Daily News editorial demanded that former EPA head explain why she and the EPA led New Yorkers to believe the air downtown was safe. more ›

Whitman Alleges Major Misconduct By Giuliani

Whitman Alleges Major Misconduct By Giuliani

Former NJ Governor and the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, Christie Todd Whitman is alleging that in the days after the 9/11 attacks, she urged the city to get rescue workers and first responders to wear respirators, but was rebuffed by then-Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. If true, the allegations would seem to severely damage Giuliani's Presidential aspirations, as he is running on the perceived strength of his leadership in the days following 9/11/01. Whitman also wanted Ground Zero workers wearing haz-mat suits and claims to have warned city officials on a daily basis of the risks that workers were facing. more ›

First Lady Takes a Trip to the Library

First Lady Takes a Trip to the Library

First Lady Laura Bush visited a school on the Lower East Side with Mayor Bloomberg and other city officials yesterday. The first lady, a former school librarian, announced a $1.3 million grant from the Laura Bush Foundation for school libraries across the country to update their book collections. Twenty-eight schools in the city will get grants up to $5,000, including the the Island School on East Houston. The Post reports that the Island School's head librarian Lewis Lhana, who conducts puppets shows, had one of the puppets "gentle dragon Qualia" tell Mayor Bloomberg he smelled "like a rocket ship." more ›

Corzine Forks Over Fine For Not Buckling Up

Corzine Forks Over Fine For Not Buckling Up

NJ Governor Jon Corzine voluntarily paid the $46 fine for not buckling his seat belt in the crash that left him critically injured almost three weeks ago. Apparently state police superintendent Col. Joseph R. Fuentes was the one who issued the ticket, which included the fine and court costs. The spokesman for the state police told the Times, "It’s been a good amount of time since the superintendent issued a summons." Well, given that Fuentes had to backtrack about the accident, later revealing that the governor's SUV had been traveling at a scorching 91 MPH, it's only fitting that he did the issuing. more ›

Corzine Just Not In NJ So Much

Corzine Just Not In NJ So Much

When NJ Governor Jon Corzine was critically injured in a car accident two weeks ago, a commenter wrote, "Obviously, God wants Codey to be governor," referring to Richard Codey, the NJ Senate majority leader (pictured) who has served as acting governor under the three past NJ governors. And, apparently, so does Corzine himself: The NY Times has an article about how Corzine was often not in NJ before being injured.:

In the 450 days between his inauguration and his accident, Mr. Corzine notified Mr. Codey that he would be away for all or part of 111 days, and would sleep out of state on 77 nights... more ›
