Christian Finnegan, Comedian

Christian Finnegan has been doing stand-up in New York for almost fifteen years. Many people might recognize him as one of the longest-running regulars on VH1's Best Week Ever, a show that he left recently in what he says was "one of those things where I think I broke up with them." This weekend he'll be headlining at Comix as he gets ready for the upcoming airing of a new Comedy Central special that will also be released as a DVD this May. He talked with us about why he doesn't like griping about how New York has changed, his beefs with the alt comedy world, and how becoming a better comedian might mean "killing" less.

PARTY: The L Magazine celebrates their fourth year and 100th issue tonight at their Fourth-Annual Centennial Party. There will be complimentary tequila and goodies from Brooklyn Industries and Crumpler. Come, drink, celebrate and don't think about the hangover you'll have tomorrow.

THEATER: One saving grace of working in midtown is that there's plenty to see on a lunchtime or late afternoon stroll, if you don't get stampeded by the crowds. And one of the best things to see, which is also away from the worst of the congested sidewalks, are Chashama's installations of window performance art. This week and next, in the 9th Oasis festival, you can catch 20-minute works from a brilliant range of over 40 choreographers chosen by Debbie Stamos and Marc Dale; with such a prime opportunity both to play the voyeur and see the next generation of artists while you're at it, maybe you should head to midtown one day even if you don't work there. - Mallory Jensen

Topping Gothamist's short list of things we can't get enough of are a nice cold Hoegarten, sample sales and the priceless humor of Flight of the Conchords. Though billed as a folk-parody duo, their songs have little to do with the typical issues addressed in folk music...unless you count their story of Albi, a racist dragon who cries jellybean tears and teaches us all a real life lesson. The rest of their songs tackle more hard hitting matters like David Bowie's song catalog, Hobbits and giving "something special" to the ladies. So yeah, we are excited that the Conchords are infiltrating the city this week.

Over the weekend the main topic of discussion was how to help out the people who were affected by Hurricane Katrina. Some New Yorkers are organizing events in order to raise money. We expect, and hope, there will be a lot more coming up in the next few months. For now take a look below at some of the upcoming benefits.

The Fringe Festival is coming soon, this means that approximately 200 companies will be bringing over 1300 performances to 20 venues in 16 days. Tonight Rule of 3 Productions is hosting a benefit for This Isn't Working, which was accepted into Fringe and now wants to celebrate that fact and raise some money to finance the production.

Still haven't ironed out your New Years Eve plans yet? It's okay, we think that holiday is over-rated anyway. We suggest you gather some good friends, resolve in '05 to buy tickets before they sell out and get over to one or more of the following shows:
