After all the rumors, trades and near-trades, yesterday did indeed turn out to be one of the craziest basketball days in years—except not in the way anyone expected. After the three-team Chris Paul trade was opposed by owners and blocked by NBA Commissioner David Stern, all bets are off as to what will happen next. But the latest report is that Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard wants to be traded to the soon-to-be Brooklyn Nets. And if it does happen, NYC can look forward to a truly worthy and competitive inner-city rivalry next year.

NBA Trade Rumormill Insanity: Tyson Chandler Reportedly Close To Signing With The Knicks
We're well into what Bill Simmons has called "one of the craziest months in NBA history," and things are starting to go bonkers with trade rumors. According to Yahoo, the Knicks are on the verge of signing center Tyson Chandler to a four year/$58 million deal. To free up space for Chandler, who played with the champion Dallas Mavericks last season, the Knicks will have to shed the contracts of Chauncey Billups and Ronny Turiaf.
Chris Paul Has Reportedly Requested Trade To The Knicks
Confirming what we've all suspected since he made a "Big 3" wedding toast nearly two years ago, Yahoo reports that the agent for New Orleans Hornets star Chris Paul informed the team today that he will not sign a contract extension, and wants to be traded to the New York Knicks. Maybe Paul is just really interested in enrolling at Amare Stoudemire's Hebrew school?
Hey, the Nets Made a Big Trade Too!
In the aftermath of the conclusion to the Carmelodrama, the Nets made their own splashy move today, trading Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, two first-round draft picks and cash to the Utah Jazz for two time All-Star point guard Deron Williams. After they lost the LeBron sweepstakes last summer, and the Carmelo one this week, the Nets were determined to emerge with a franchise player this time; and though it seemingly came together very quickly, coach Anthony Johnson says it was in the works for awhile: "This is not a Plan B. It was just one that wasn't announced. One that nobody got -- until recently. He's not a Plan B. He's a Plan A also. We've been working on this for a while."
LeBron James Wears Yankees Cap—That Means Something, Right?
LeBron James made an appearance at his LeBron James Skills Academy camp in Akron, Ohio yesterday —and he was wearing a Yankees cap! Maybe Yankees GM Brian Cashman knows something when he says, "LeBron James is going to be a Knick... I'm convinced of it. New York is the place that will allow LeBron to be the player and person he wants to be, and it's all coming together. Just listen, LeBron James will be a Knick."
Last Night's Action: Missing Carter
Hornets 84, Nets 82: As much as the Nets appreciate the start to the season Antoine Wright has had, they probably don't want him taking their final shot at the buzzer. But Wright did just that after starting for Vince Carter -- out with a sprained ankle -- and the result wasn't pretty. Carter's injury will have him out the always mysterious "indefinitely," and the Nets will have to find offense elsewhere. Richard Jefferson (32...

No Glass Slipper for Jaspers or Hall
Yesterday, the Manhattan Jaspers and Seton Hall Pirates were both eliminated from the NCAA tournament. Manhattan's Cinderella story was ended by Wake Forest and Seton Hall was bounced out of the tournament by Duke. The Jaspers were done in by Chris Paul, Wake's phenomenal freshman, who scored 29 points in the game, while the Pirates were done in by J.J. Redick. Both teams were presented with great challenges, and Manhattan almost overcame their's.
