Neither the Jets nor the Dolphins have enjoyed their seasons too much. One half of the Jets' wins came on Sept. 23 when they edged the Dolphins 31-28 at home. Now they travel to Miami. They're 0-5 on the road, but Miami has lost 14 straight. Ironically, the Jets stand to gain the most if they lose and somehow pass the Dolphins in the NFL draft pecking order. But shhh! No one's thinking about that....

Bye weeks allow football teams time to regroup, take a few days off and recover from any injury problems they have. Some teams get burned by getting byes too late in the season, and others have bad luck when they get theirs only a few weeks in. The Jets had no complaints about their open date. Not only was it scheduled at the midway point of the season, it capped a three-game stretch against three below-average NFL teams. But after scraping by in the first two of those games, the Jets fell flat in a 20-13 loss to Cleveland on Sunday and enter their bye at 4-4.

When the NFL first released its 2005 schedule, someone somewhere was happy at the prospect of seeing the defending champion New England Patriots have to play the upstart Jets twice in the season's final month - both Sunday in Foxboro, Mass. (4:15, TV: WCBS - 2, Radio: 1050 AM ESPN), and in a Dec. 26 Monday night matchup in East Rutherford.

There were seven fumbles, three turnovers, six dropped passes, eight penalties and a blocked field-goal attempt in which rookie kicker Mike Nugent slipped on an imaginary banana peel.
