Police Still Searching For Bronx Boy's Shooter

Just after midnight yesterday, a 10-year-old boy was caught in a drive-by shooting in the Bronx. The boy suffered a bullet wound in the foot; according to NY1, "Police say the boy's father had sent him and a friend to pick up food at a Chinese restaurant on Monroe Avenue in Mount Hope... The boys were in front of the restaurant when a car pulled up and someone started shooting at a group of people standing outside the restaurant." A neighbor who heard the gunfire told the Daily News, "My son would have to be in the house before the sun goes down." The boy is in stable condition; police are asking that anyone with information contact Crime Stoppers by either calling 800-577-TIPS, texting CRIMES (then enter TIP577), or going to the Crime Stoppers website.

11-Year-Old Brooklyn Girl Shot In Her Home

Yesterday afternoon, an 11-year-old girl using the computer in the living room was was shot in the chest. WCBS 2 reports, "The shooter was standing in the hallway when he started firing blindly, but one of the bullets hit the girl seated at her computer. It went straight through her and into the machine." And 1010 WINS suggests the shooter may have been the girl's mother's boyfriend, who started firing after a fight: "Police believe the mother's boyfriend opened fire and shot through a bedroom door from an interior hallway after it was slammed in his face during an argument inside a second floor apartment at 660 Hendrix Street. Police say he missed his intended target and shot the 11-year-old girl." The girl was in surgery last night and is currently in critical but stable condition at Brookdale Hospital.

The NYPD announced a 19-year-old and two 16-year-olds were arrested in the shooting of two people, including a 5-year-old girl who had been walking with her parents, on Monday night. The incident took place on a residential street in the Ridgewood section of Queens. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said, "The so-called Blood members were coming down the street and the Trinitario group was sitting on the stoop. And this was some sort of gang encounter. Shots were fired. And, as I say, we hope to make more arrests on this matter." Newsday reports when the girl's father saw one man draw a machete, the family tried to run for cover, and the little girl was hit in the back. A 28-year-old man, believed to be involved in the dispute, was shot in the leg. Neighbors tell NY1 there's been a lot of gang violence in the neighborhood.

Police have questioned a man suspected of shooting a 9-year-old boy on Monday night. Gunfire erupted between two men outside a Crown Heights housing project (the Daily News suggests it was a "drug turf war"), and Shamhawan Kelly was hit by a bullet which entered his temple and exited his forehead. Fights and shootings are "not unfamiliar" to the project's residents--the NY Times reports "longtime residents... taught their children to hit the ground when a shot was heard"--but one resident wept yesterday, "This [shooting] was the worst." The NYPD hopes the $12,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction will encourage witnesses to step forward. The boy's family remains hopeful, as he seems to be improving.

Police are looking for a man whose gunfire hit a 9-year-old boy on his bike. According to the NY Post, two men were arguing on Pacific Street in Crown Heights, when one of the men said, "Now I've got to you motherf---er" and opened fire. Sham-Shawann Kelly had been eight feet away, with many other children, when the bullet hit his head. He is in critical condition, but his family is hopeful he will make it. The Daily News reports police were on the scene with bloodhounds, even sledgehammers "to knock down doors," to find the suspect.

While an 11-year-old boy remain in critical condition after being shot in the face, Suffolk Country police believe his father was the real target. Newsday reports that Jeffrey Langhorn's father had apparently "fought with" a group of men "before one of them fired three shots."

This is a bad trend: Days after an 11-year-old boy was shot in the chest after opening the door of his Queens home and a 3-year-old girl, in a car, was hit by a stray bullet in the Bronx, an 11-year-old girl's head was grazed by a bullet in the Bronx yesterday.

It was an ordinary Sunday night in Springfield Gardens, Queens, but it turned violent when an 11-year-old boy was shot after answering the door. The father the victim, Tyshaun Falconer, says his son told him, "Daddy, I think I got shot." Tyshaun, a student at I.S 59, had told the person at the door that his older brother, Tony Falconer Jr., was not at home right before the hooded man shot him in the chest.

A child was hit by a bullet while in a car driven by her mother's boyfriend. Gunfire broke out at the corner of East 184th Street and Tiebout Avenue, and the car was caught in the crossfire.
